The #68 #OWASP #Frankfurt Chapter Meeting with Jeff Williams and Kevin Wennemuth was nothing short of inspiring! 💡 We not only tackled today’s security challenges but also took a quick detour into the fascinating history of #AppSec. It’s incredible to see just how much has evolved—and, in some ways, how little has changed—since OWASP’s inception. Key Highlights: 🔍 From Assurance-Driven to Risk-Driven Security Jeff Williams highlighted a critical shift we’re witnessing: moving from assurance-driven efforts to a risk-driven approach in security. While this focus on risk has brought some clarity to prioritizing vulnerabilities, he posed an important question: In an increasingly complex digital world, is this approach enough and sustainable? 🔒 Kevin Wennemuth shared real-life stories of companies hit by ransomware, offering a glimpse into what happens when IT infrastructures are compromised. His experiences underscored the importance of preparedness, teamwork, and effective incident response plans. He highlighted that an organization’s security culture is truly tested in the midst of these crises. For our #67 #OWASP Chapter Meeting, we tried out something new - a panel discussion featuring four incredible CISOs and Security Directors who shared their insights on Software and Application Security in a Dynamic Threat Landscape. A huge thanks to Sheetal Joseph, Dr. Tim Sattler, Irfaan Santoe and Scott T Nichols, HCISPP, CHPSE, MCP for traveling from near and far to share their experiences and insights. Your perspectives across topics like application security, third party risk management, security in genAI and even quantum safety were very interesting. A big shout-out to Mathis Landzettel-Doré and the IBM team for being an amazing host, providing not only a fantastic location but also delicious food, making it the perfect setting for an engaging discussion, networking and learning.
