How do you get 260 students through simulated practice in less than a week? (And no, this isn’t the start of a terrible joke) You use OMS, of course! Last week, we had the pleasure of being on-site with Teesside University to help facilitate their Simulated Practice Learning Week for 260 first-year nursing students. Learners were introduced to OMS and simulation in groups. They were then tasked with running four individual scenarios involving a range of cases, from paediatric NAI to adult anaphylaxis. “OMS was our favourite part of the week and gave us confidence in becoming nurses.” “Being able to practice, repeat, and learn from mistakes was amazing. “ These are just some great feedback we received, but this is happening all across the UK. Universities are using OMS to offer clinical experiences that traditional simulation can’t scale for, and when learners are as engaged as this, it’s a win-win. #HealthcareSimulation

🌟Simulated Practice Learning for 1st Year Nursing Students at Teesside University 🌟 Last week, #TeamTeesside delivered an immersive Simulated Practice Learning (SPL) week for 266 first-year nursing students across all fields – Mental Health, Adult, Child, and Learning Disabilities. Using high-fidelity simulation and virtual reality scenarios, we prepared students for their first placements in a realistic environment. 💡 Anyone who has delivered an SPL week knows it takes an army, and this was truly a team effort involving: -Subject expert staff from all nursing fields and allied health professions, who created scenarios and supported as practice supervisors. -Talented simulation technicians, who went above and beyond to create realistic and immersive environments. -Skilled role-play actors, including our service user and carer group and Peel Roleplay. -The innovative Oxford Medical Simulation team, who joined us at the start of the week and then handed over to our very capable Dan Wade-Myers. -The wider nursing team, who supported staffing and resources, with special thanks to Chris Borge. 📈 Feedback and progress: Students appreciated the realism of our ward and community settings, the communication workshops exploring difficult topics such as conflict resolution and breaking bad news, and the independence of working through virtual reality healthcare scenarios in their own time. Coming back together as a group for end-of-day debriefs was another highlight. The week provided valuable learning opportunities for everyone involved, with positive feedback from students and exciting prospects and direction for further enhancement for future SPL delivery. 🎉 Looking forward: As we plan for the new year, we hope our team enjoys some (hopefully) less intense weeks and a well-deserved Christmas break. Here’s to shaping the future of nursing with innovation and collaboration! 🩺✨ #NursingEducation #SimulationLearning #FutureNurses #Teamwork #Gratitude

“The findings from these previous studies combined with this project evaluation support the use of VR tools to develop nursing students’ clinical reasoning skills.” ...and it's not just clinical reasoning skills. Check out this recent paper to learn more about how VR simulations and AI can enhance learning and strengthen communication, clinical reasoning, and other non-technical clinical skills. https://lnkd.in/dGdVZBhs

Is your nursing program preparing students for real-world success? In September of this year, we hosted a group of leaders from across the United States for a roundtable discussion on bridging the gap between nursing school and the transition to practice. Today, we're hosting a follow-up webinar as we explore this topic further and learn from those who are leading the way in supporting students to ensure they are ready to practice. We recently hosted a roundtable with an incredible group of nursing leaders, which provided the opportunity to discuss how we can better prepare future nurses for real-world challenges. The ideas that were exchanged are invaluable, and we can’t wait to share them in our upcoming white paper!
