Higher Education
Contribute to an increased prosperity with access to education and training for everyone in the Baltic Sea Region.
About us
Policy Area (PA) Education is one of 14 Policy Areas in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The Policy Area is coordinated by the Norden Association Sweden (Föreningen Norden Sverige) and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in Germany. PA Education contributes to an increased prosperity that presupposes access to quality education and training for all, an effective and inclusive welfare system and a well-functioning labour market supporting geographical, professional, and socioeconomic mobility. In science and research, we face an increased global competitiveness where even though our macro region is performing well, we can do more through closer collaboration, making best use of our resources together in the Baltic Sea region.

Integrating #migrants and #refugees is high on the agenda in the Baltic Sea Region. In October, our coordinators facilitated a workshop to explore the potential of cultural activities in fostering social integration: https://lnkd.in/dBkCNxjq Discussions in the workshop highlighted the power of shared cultural experiences as a bridge to understanding, empathy, and unity in diverse communities. The outcomes shall be integrated into the EUSBSR Policy Area Education emerging collaboration platform "Baltic Sea Region Integrate Now", which invites actors across the Baltic Sea Region to join forces to promote #integration. Integration into a new place is only possible through mutual understanding and exchange. It is a two-way process that cannot rely solely on expectations for newcomers: Integration requires contact with local people, and there's a need for integration measures that also target the host society. The one-day workshop brought together scholars and analysts from universities, research institutions, and think tanks from around the Baltic Sea. The aim was to make different perspectives on the new security situation in the Baltic Sea region visible, draw conclusions, and build bridges for future research and policy.
