Today, Thales held a Grand Opening celebration for its West Coast Operations Centre – which is built on the traditional territories of the Me’ le’ xelh Mustimuhwfor (Malahat Nation). The event brought together members of Thales, the Malahat Nation and the Royal Canadian Navy | Marine royale canadienne as well as architects, builders, and the greater community to celebrate this important milestone. The facility represents an investment in the future of in-service support solutions that are tailored to meet the Royal Canadian Navy’s evolving needs. It will help us oversee the refit, repair and maintenance of the Arctic Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and the Joint Support Ships (JSS) fleets, together with the Royal Canadian Navy and the Fleet Maintenance Facilities, to ensure ships are mission-ready and available, where and when they are needed. With Canada’s largest MedTech company StarFish Medical and North America’s largest faculty of Health Informatics School of Health Information Science, UVic, the region is primed for #BioTech and #MedTech success. Seaspan is proud to announce that we have invested $2.5 million to create new skills training and apprenticeship opportunities for Indigenous People in Greater Vancouver who want to pursue a career in the marine industry. This 5-year funding program is a continuation of a longstanding partnership with ACCESS - Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society, a non-profit organization which helps prepare Indigenous community members for a career in shipbuilding. Programs such as this helps Seaspan achieve our goal of reducing barriers and building a diverse and capable workforce, while providing opportunities for generational careers in our rapidly expanding industry.
