“Trust is a cornerstone of our relationships with our clients, our employees, our design team partners, and I think part of what builds trust is transparency and honesty.” PAE President and CEO, Christian J. Agulles, PE, recently spoke with Nick Rockel at Fortune on how embedding sustainability into the core of our business helps build trust with clients looking for innovative solutions to reduce embodied and operational carbon: https://bit.ly/3UZNDWZ “As sustainability in building systems has become more in fashion, people are very sensitive to the idea of greenwashing. They’re paying very, very close attention to all of the things that you do in how you run your business, the culture of your organization, to make sure that sustainability is embedded within your culture and not something layered on top.”

It's PAE's John Lansing, CPD, LEED Green Associate in the New York Times! John spoke about how right-sized pipes can save owners money while also boosting water quality and public health: "We don’t want to be installing pipes larger than we need,” Mr. Lansing said. “It’s like installing a 10-lane freeway out to a small town. Hypothetically, there could be a concert out there once every 10 years, but do we really want to design for that? Do we want to pay for that? The answer is no. Not only is it expensive, but there’s energy loss implications, reduces the water quality in the building. To a certain extent, it increases the public health risk.” Unlocked article in comments.
Have you ever considered that the plumbing pipes in your home or business might be oversized and you're wasting water or risking your health? My latest piece for The New York Times (Real Estate section) shares insights from plumbing science experts and how using a water demand calculator can help save water resources and decrease the risk of bacteria growth. Thank you to Christoph Lohr, PE, Stefaniya (Steffi) Becking, Gary Klein, John Lansing, CPD, LEED Green Associate, Jessie Cannizzaro, and Patrick O’Neill from Waukesha County Technical College, and many others who shared their time and insights with me for this story. And to my writing pals who helped bring this story to life: Katherine X Reynolds Lewis, Debbie Carlson, Kate Silver, Cindy Kuzma, Aimee Levitt, Dawn Reiss, Alison Bowen, and Matthew Krecun. The PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship, our partnership with AFO, is launching in 2025! With this scholarship, we aim to support racial and gender diversity within the engineering profession, providing mentorship and career support to the next generation.
We are pleased to announce our newest AFO Scholarship, the PAE Diversity in Engineering Scholarship, funded by and in partnership with PAE. PAE envisions a future with clean air, energy, and water for all. They are committed to supporting the next generation of diverse professional engineers focused on climate justice. This scholarship aims to increase racial and gender diversity within the engineering profession. Scholarship funds are intended to offset direct educational costs and allow students to focus on achieving their academic goals in engineering. Awardees are invited to build relationships with PAE and AFO’s community of building and design professionals and will receive opportunities for career support and mentorship. More information and the 2025 application, to come! #afoscholarships #diversityscholarship #engineeringscholarship #afoannouncements

Why support interim housing for the unsheltered homeless? Our friend, co-collaborator, and Dignity Moves CEO Elizabeth Funk says it best. Read her thoughts on this essential solution! https://lnkd.in/gbVbRWZA
📣 News Alert! We are proud to share a compelling editorial from our founder and CEO, Elizabeth Funk, published in this past Sunday’s San Francisco Chronicle. In the piece, Elizabeth tackles California’s unsheltered homelessness crisis and explains why interim housing is the essential solution we need now. Elizabeth also outlines the urgent need for dignified, cost-effective interim housing solutions that bring people indoors quickly. The data is clear: interim housing costs significantly less than the alternative and saves lives in the process. 🏠💡 With the success of interim housing models in cities like San Jose, we have a path forward. It’s time for California to act with the urgency this crisis demands. We’re grateful to the San Francisco Chronicle for spotlighting this critical issue and helping us continue the conversation around practical, compassionate solutions. ⬇ Read the full article at the link in comments to learn how interim housing can transform lives and communities.

Showing up and making a difference in our community is baked into the PAE way of being. We recently celebrated our partnership with DignityMoves, a transitional housing program, by assembling and planting garden boxes at their San Francisco site.
