November is National Youth Homeless Month. Did you know that more than 2,000 children experienced homelessness in the nation’s Capital last winter, alone? Children experiencing homelessness have higher exposure to violence, trafficking and severe emotional distress as compared to their housed peers. In 2022, we expanded our operations to Washington D.C. where we coordinate with D.C. government to provide affordable housing and services to families with children. We helped nearly 100 homeless households secure permanent supportive housing in DC this year. Monday, November 17th will mark Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. There is no single reason why a person can become homeless, but there are many contributing factors. Pathway Homes’ work addresses an all-too-common reason — individuals experiencing serious mental illnesses and/or co-occurring disabilities lack access to adequate care and support. Through our #HousingFirst model, we find safe and affordable housing for those we serve, by helping them to remain in their community while receiving the healthcare and support they need to live with dignity and purpose.
