New Years Day was Tom Marmet’s birthday. He should be turning 29, but instead, because of his tragic death in 2018, we work to honor his life by resolving to do more to end community violence in DC. Click here to read our latest newsletter and learn more about how we are working together to heal trauma and reduce homicides in the communities that for decades have faced the greatest burden of violence and pain: https://lnkd.in/gq9V_QcM

As 2024 comes to an end, we are excited to share our Year End Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/eYeQ47aS This year, Peace For DC has made significant strides in healing trauma, empowering peacemakers, and transforming lives in our community. These achievements wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from our donors and partners. Together, we’ve built a stronger, more connected community where individuals can overcome adversity and reach their full potential. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey. We look forward to continuing this vital work in 2025.

Homicides are down year-to-date in DC: 33% city-wide, with similar reductions in both ONSE Priority Communities and OAG Cure the Streets Target Areas. This is a testament to the dedication, hard work and bravery of DC’s public safety ecosystem- including DC’s violence intervention and prevention professionals. Nevertheless, homicides and shootings are still much higher than pre-pandemic. And one murder is one murder too many. We must remain focused and continue to bring the rates of violence down, until children feel safe playing at every playground, businesses feel safe opening in every neighborhood, and every person can have the freedom to live without fear of gun violence. We know that like housing, hunger, and other big challenges, our government cannot solve this alone. This is an all-of-us challenge. Together, peace is possible. #Throwback to our Holiday Party last week with #DCPeaceAcademy alumni and their families! We had a fantastic time reconnecting with our #Peacemaker Alumni, and we loved watching their children enjoy animal balloons, face paint, air brush tattoos, and games. DC’s dedicated violence intervention and prevention professionals work so hard all year long, and we wanted to do something special to make sure they know how much they are appreciated during the holiday season. Together #PeaceIsPossible!
