Just finished our two-day annual orientation on #PennState's University Park campus for our Doctor of Engineering in Engineering program, offered by Penn State College of Engineering through Penn State World Campus. Our rigorous program is designed for the working professional and is highly flexible and interdisciplinary. We had about 50 students here in person this year as well as a dozen online. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for our Thursday evening social at the University Wine Company. "The actual human interaction of going to Sheetz, observing, asking people questions, I thought that was probably the most impactful part of the whole program. When we make products, I'm going to have to get other people's perspective, understand the actual problem and their difficulties with it." - Deon Harper, mechanical engineering undergraduate. In the Sheetz Engineering Innovation Challenge, #PennStateEngineering students observed in-store activity throughout the spring and brainstormed new ideas to enhance customer happiness. Then, they pitched those ideas to Sheetz representatives in a final competition and rapidly prototyped solutions for judging, with the winners receiving $5,000. This competition, made possible by support from the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, was a pilot for the new #PennState engineering #microcredential series.
