Not one, not two, but THREE presentations in one day and no two were the same. Last week I had the amazing opportunity to share insights on data and communication, data strategy, and the value of volunteer leadership in #healthcare at the California Hospital Association's CAHHS Volunteer Leadership Conference. For each, I formulated a different specific purpose, adapted the message to the audience, and then outlined the main ideas using a visual framework. These are the exact same steps that I instruct my #publicspeaking college students to take in developing their speeches for the classroom. 1️⃣ Topic and Purpose: Have a clear purpose, know why you are sharing it 2️⃣ Audience: Know your audience through demographic, psychographic, and situational analysis to best compose the message 3️⃣ Visual Framework: Outline main ideas and supporting points in a formal outline that provides a visual relationship of one idea to another in order to ensure smooth transitions These steps in speech development are ones I have shared with Speech Communication students for more years than I care admit, but they are tried and true.
