“How did this happen?” PCVA Partner Mallory Allen spoke to Newsday about the hospitals that ignored years of complaints against convicted abuser Darius Paduch. "Many of our clients saw Dr. Paduch while he was under active investigation at both hospitals. How they allow him to see patients while he's under active investigation for sexual misconduct is beyond me. I am particularly focused on several proposed new bills under consideration including: *SB 5375: The duty of clergy to report child abuse and neglect Religious organizations (especially the Catholic Church) continue to hide abuses behind a veil of secrecy *SB 5342: Providing access for legislators to facilities owned and operated by the state Lawmakers must have immediate access to inspect group homes and other facilities to help uncover and prevent child abuse I look forward to working tirelessly throughout the session support our lawmakers in making these important changes. Two lawsuits have been filed against the Bainbridge Island School District (BISD) involving allegations of sexual abuse. PCVA attorney Kevin Hastings is representing a former BISD student in one of the cases. The lawsuit alleges that two former BISD male teachers sexually abused and exploited the client during her senior year in the mid-1980s. "I believe there were several people in the 1980s who knew this was happening and chose not to act," Hastings said. "The safety of children depends on the strength of the institution and its administration. Allowing such an environment to persist creates a very dangerous situation for kids." We had the incredible privilege of gathering with over 400 legal professionals and judges as we officially recognized the change of the Western District of Washington Chapter of the Federal Bar Association to the M. Margaret McKeown Federal Bar Association (M3) in honor of Judge M. Margaret McKeown and her incredible legacy in the legal community.
