About us
The Public Health Association of Nebraska (PHAN) was established in November 1950 (initially as the Nebraska Public Health Association and renamed in 2000). PHAN provides a forum for discussion and advocacy around significant public health concerns facing our state. As the state's affiliate of the American Public Health Association, PHAN members also add Nebraska's perspective to national public health discussions. PHAN is governed and managed by a dedicated board of directors. PHAN has no staff. The board works with membership to create opportunities to connect and learn. The board also works to develop and enact governance and operations structures that allow the association to effectively represent public health in Nebraska. This Public Health Association of Nebraska LinkedIn *page* shares public-facing updates on PHAN activities and priorities. The Public Health Association of Nebraska LinkedIn *group* is a place for PHAN members to engage with other members.

Yield Giving's award is an amazing acknowledgment of Nebraska Appleseed’s track record of impact and the many community members, supporters, partners, staff, and board members who've worked together to secure rights, win systemic change, and enable more Nebraskans to thrive. We're deeply honored and grateful for the recognition from Yield Giving and our peer reviewers. Public Health Association of Nebraska reposted this
Good news — the #NEleg Appropriations Committee included funding for #LB1124 and #LB1125, both dealing with home visiting, in their committee amendment to the state budget bill, #LB1412. The bill was advanced with the committee amendment on a 39-3 vote. LB1412 is now on Select File, the second round of debate. Both bills were fully funded as requested by the introducers. LB1124, introduced by State Senator Tony Vargas, was funded at $900K for evidence-based home visiting, and LB1125, introduced by State Senator Anna Wishart, at $500K for evidence-based nurse home visiting utilizing the Medicaid Managed Care Excess Profit Fund. Evidence-based home visiting is voluntary and free to families at risk. Benefits include healthier pregnancies and maternal care, stronger parenting skills and parent-child relationships and better academic and social outcomes for children.
