Terra Solar aims ERC approval for Php 200B solar and battery project Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. (TSPI) has filed a request with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to build a transmission facility for its Php 200-billion solar power and battery energy storage project. In a report by Business World, the company intends to establish point-to-point limited transmission facilities to link its solar project to the Luzon grid, as indicated in its ERC application. TSPI stated that the connection through a bus-in system along the Nagsaag-San Jose 500-kilovolt (kV) Transmission Line is critical for the project’s commercial operations slated to begin in the first quarter of 2026. The project included a 3,500-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plant and a 4,500-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage facility in Central Luzon, with full completion expected by 2027. https://lnkd.in/g7meRQ_A

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬’ 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐍𝐄𝐅 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 The Department of Energy (DOE) welcomes the 2024 Climatescope Report by BloombergNEF, which ranks the Philippines as the 2nd most attractive emerging market for renewable energy investments. This milestone, marked by the rise from 4th place in 2023 and an impressive leap from 20th place in 2021, reflects the growing confidence of the global community in our country’s commitment to clean energy transition and sustainable growth. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the Philippines’ comprehensive renewable energy policies, which include auctions, net metering schemes, tax incentives, and an aggressive clean energy target of 35% renewable energy in the power mix by 2030. As the only emerging market in the Asia-Pacific region with all these mechanisms in place, we are paving the way for a more sustainable energy future, not only for our nation but as a model for the region. The journey, however, is far from over. With the peak demand growth assumptions of around 5.3 percent annually from 2024 to 2028, the need to further accelerate renewable energy development is still crucial to address the energy needs of the country’s expanding economy. Significantly, while most of the renewable energy investment is domestic, we look forward to realizing the potential of increased foreign participation through recent reforms that allow 100% foreign equity in renewable energy projects. These measures aim to unlock greater investments in solar, wind, and hydro projects, fortifying the Philippines as a prime destination for clean energy ventures. The Administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirms its commitment to driving renewable energy development, fostering innovation, and creating an enabling environment for both local and international investors. The government will continue to harness the immense potential of the country’s natural resources to fuel inclusive economic growth and a greener, more sustainable future for the generations to come. This recognition inspires the DOE to further intensify its efforts in achieving our renewable energy goals, ensuring that our nation remains a global beacon of progress in the energy transition. ###

The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen energy transition cooperation. The MOU was one of the key agreements reached at the meeting between President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during Marcos' working visit to the Gulf state last Nov.26. In a statement over the weekend, Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Raphael Lotilla said the MOU includes several areas of cooperation particularly in renewable energy; liquefied natural gas as a transition fuel; power generation, transmission, and distribution system; nuclear energy; energy efficiency and conservation; and alternative fuels and emerging technologies. “By combining the UAE’s leadership in innovative energy solutions with the Philippines’ ambitious drive for energy security and sustainability, this initiative has the potential to transform not only industries but also the lives of millions of Filipinos,” Lotilla said. https://lnkd.in/gVYniRi7
