Today is #WorldHumanitarianDay. ⚠ Last year, 595 humanitarian workers were killed, injured or kidnapped. With the number of attacks on humanitarian workers increasing year upon year, we implore Member States to #ActForHumanity and: ☝ ensure the protection of humanitarians and civilians ✌ hold perpetrators accountable for violations of International Humanitarian Law (#IHL) At PIN, we go where the needs are but humanitarian workers should not have to risk their lives to help others in crisis. This week is London Climate Action Week! 🌍 #LCAW2024 🤝 Our colleagues, Blessing Allen-Adebayo and Camila Garbutt, are at #LCAW2024 this week, engaging in discussions on how to better work alongside communities, particularly women and girls, to develop sustainable, locally-owned solutions for climate resilience and Disaster Risk Management. At PIN, we work in solidarity with people and communities to fight against injustice and inequality. ⚡ Communities in countries where we work are some of the most exposed to climate risks and the least responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change will cause loss and damage for those who are the least responsible, increasing the need for Disaster Risk Management and Early Warning Systems. ⚖ As a matter of Climate Justice, we believe we have a role and responsibility to do what we can, where we can, to support those disproportionately affected by the destructive impacts of climate change.  PIN works closely with local communities and civil society to support locally-led climate action and locally-led adaptation initiatives. ✅ We work together to identify the problems, vulnerabilities and hazards in order to co-design the most relevant and systemic interventions based on each specific context or promote solutions that communities have already initiated. This week, our colleague Alberto Clerici is attending the Global Shelter Cluster's Annual Meeting in Geneva. #GSCmeeting24     ✅ One of the key topics for discussion at this year’s event is durable shelter solutions.      During the meeting, PIN is showcasing our Social Rental Housing programme in Ukraine. 🏚     Ukraine is facing a severe housing crisis driven by increased housing needs due to the ongoing war. Extensive damage to residential units, coupled with the displacement of millions of people, has placed significant strain on the already deteriorating housing infrastructure.     ❗ Addressing this crisis has become a top national priority.      We have provided shelter assistance and early recovery support in hard-to-reach locations since 2014 and have significantly scaled up our shelter programme since February 2022. 📈     In Ukraine, we support a locally-led multi-sectoral emergency response through our network of over 200 partners, providing, alongside Shelter & NFI, Cash-based programming, WASH, Protection and Education.     At the core of our affordable housing strategy in Ukraine lies Social Rental Housing, a key concept aimed at assisting society’s most vulnerable, including low-income earners and internally displaced people with disabilities.     We prioritise Social Rental Housing as a critical component of our developmental goals, as it has the double effect of addressing urgent housing needs whilst contributing to the foundation for an expansive, adaptable and affordable housing system.     Read more about this programme here.
