We’re proud to announce that Professor Haitham Amal, Associate Professor at The School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Head of the Laboratory of Neuromics, Cell Signaling, and Translational Medicine, is part of a $17 million grant consortium for groundbreaking autism research. This grant, awarded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), supports cutting-edge studies aimed at advancing our understanding and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Professor Amal’s team has identified a crucial link between nitric oxide levels in the brain and autism, offering new insights that could revolutionize diagnostics and treatments. As the only lab outside the U.S. included in this initiative, his research will also investigate how environmental factors, such as air pollution, contribute to autism, paving the way for innovative solutions. In addition to his role at Hebrew University, Professor Amal is a Visiting Professor at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. How many women are facing daily struggles without ever being diagnosed with autism, due to diagnostic bias?🔍 Diagnostic bias may be one reason why women and girls are more likely to be misdiagnosed, under-diagnosed, or diagnosed later in life. Simply because autism can look different in boys than girls.👧🏻👦🏽 A new study led by our Co-Founder and CSO, Prof. Haitham Amal challenges the conventional belief that autism predominantly affects boys. Developing innovative biological tests for ASD can serve as unbiased, accurate tools for diagnosis. At Point6 Bio we are dedicated to generating timely and objective solutions for all genders through our biomarker-based diagnostic approach.
