Renaissance Venture Capital is pretty remarkable. The fund-of-funds is a bedrock foundation for Michigan's Innovation Ecosystem, investing in VCs that look at Michigan startups, and hosting biannual #UnDemoDay events to connect entrepreneurs with investors. Eight Pointe Angels investors descended on the last UnDemo Day event, meeting with over 40 startups, about a third of which advanced to dealflow. Pointe Angels congratulates Ann Arbor SPARK, ID Ventures, MSU Research Foundation, the Biotechnology Research Commercialization Corridor (#BRCC), and U-M Innovation Partnerships on the passage of HB-5651-53 authorizing the #MichiganInnovationFund (MIF). Taxpayer-led #EvergreenFunding for these five VCs can really open Michigan's commercialization throttle, helping homegrown Innovators bridge the gap from Friends&Family money to Series-A. Michigan's 10 active Angel Networks and 1,000+ accredited Angel Investors open that throttle even further, expanding dealflow and syndication opportunities beyond the MIF five. Angels have vast industry experience, innovation-support networks, and an appetite for risk that favors the earliest stages of startup commercialization. #AngelTaxCredits will do for Angel- funded Michigan startups what MIF does for its five VCs' dealflow - at a fraction of the taxpayer cost.
