Updates

  • Progress continues on the 90,000 sf Oppidan Data Center in Carol Stream. The existing structures have been demolished, and extensive earthwork has balanced the site, significantly reducing material haul-off. By closely collaborating with the client, our team implemented an innovative haul-off strategy and optimized the foundation design using aggregate piers. This approach eliminated the need for extensive soil undercuts beneath the building pad, saving both time and resources. Currently, precast panel installation is underway, bringing the building's structure to life ahead of schedule—well before the season's first snowfall.

  • Introducing 871 N Franklin, a century-old building reimagined through adaptive reuse as part of JDL's North Union development. Once home to the Neely Printing Company, this iconic structure now offers 44,000 sf of residential space complemented by ground-level retail. To prepare for its complete transformation, our project team cautiously preserved the historic shell while carefully removing the existing roofing membrane to support the two-story structural steel expansion. To ensure structural integrity of the aged concrete structure, a third party consultant was engaged to perform various tests on the installed anchor bolts, confirming the strength of the existing structure and validating the new design. After demolishing the building's interior, detailed laser scanning revealed that the column bays were not aligned to a perfect grid, introducing a challenge that required a creative solution and enhanced coordination to align with the architectural design intent. We overcame this by custom-sizing all steel elements to precise specifications and dimensions, creating a new "grid" for the building's new purpose. The result is a striking two-story vertical expansion that brings the structure to five stories, featuring ribbed metal panels and flat ACM panels. The north and west facades feature 1920's red brick — a defining element of Chicago architecture — bringing a touch of historic charm to the new development.

  • During this giving season, our #PowerwithPurpose volunteers brought positive energy and commitment to the Advocate Food Farmacy Program packaging and distributing bags of food for patients and their families. Through this program, Advocate Advocate South Suburban Hospital and Advocate Trinity Hospital patients receive fresh produce and proteins bi-weekly, providing valuable support to those experiencing food insecurity or chronic health conditions. Thanks to the Food Farmacy, families can focus on choosing better nutritious foods without worrying about the cost, empowering them to prioritize both their well-being and happiness. #PowerofGiving

  • After a year of construction, our project with The Voyager Company and SCB at 27th and Tschache ("shock-ee") in Bozeman, MT is well underway. Infrastructure across the 14.43 acre site is in place and nearly all of the building foundations have been poured. Slated for completion in November 2025, we're excited to see how this development takes shape over the next 12 months.

      +1
  • Congratulations to our project team on completing The Arthur on Aberdeen, a 406,000 sf, 18-story concrete structure apartment building is located in Fulton Market. Planned on an irregularly shaped site, the project incorporates an adaptive reuse of the Arthur Harris Building, a historic bow truss building with 35’ ceilings from the turn of the century whose vintage feel cannot be replicated. Our team managed extensive repairs to the former steel float manufacturing building's windows, masonry facade, roof, and interior structural wood cross-beams. The landmarked portion houses retail space and the residential structure houses 363 rental units, a second floor amenity level and roof top pool/amenity space. 📸 : Daniel Kelleghan Photography

  • Our #PowerwithPurpose volunteers came together with Habitat for Humanity to help finalize two houses that will soon become homes to partner families. Our team of 20 had no shortage of determination – within just 8 hours of work, one house was fully primed, and the other made significant site-work progress – ultimately expediting homeowners' ability to move in before the New Year! There's no better way to spend the day than taking care of our community. Thank you to our volunteers and to Habitat for Humanity for the opportunity to support your mission.
