Skender and its partner, Blackwood Group LLC, successfully completed the massive renovations of two 17-story apartment buildings on Chicago’s West Side – the 350-unit Albany Terrace Apartments in South Lawndale and the 150-unit Irene McCoy Gaines Apartments in East Garfield Park. This year, our team proudly finished the 38,000-square-foot expansion for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The Food Depository is a pillar of our community, and we are honored to help them expand and serve more people than ever before. The expansion added a commercial kitchen for meal preparation, cold storage spaces to support the food preparation areas, a new lobby and 11.5 acres of site work with ample parking for volunteers and guests. Our team had the incredible opportunity to volunteer for the Chicago Winter Stand Down on Friday to help give back to Veterans in need. We're honored to be able to serve this community as they have served us. Today, we take a moment to reflect on the selfless sacrifice our Veterans have made and continue to make for our country. This morning, we were honored to be a part of the re-grand opening of Irene McCoy Gaines Apartments in East Garfield Park! This 17-story, 150-unit senior living building was originally built in 1964. Now, all units have been renovated, including new HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, and new amenity spaces for the community. We’re humbled to have been a part of this project with our partners from Blackwood Group LLC, Chicago Housing Authority, Michaels Development Company, Canopy / architecture + design, and all of our trade partners. Congratulations to everyone involved!
