🌟 Strategic Planning for Ethiopia's Solar Future! 🌟 In collaboration with ESEDA (Ethiopian Solar Energy Development Association), GIZ- Energising Development (EnDev) Ethiopia hosted a successful Workshop on October 31st 2024. The event started with a warm welcome from the ESEDA to the participants and an insightful opening speech by Mr. Al Mudabbir Bin Anam, Programme Director of GIZ-implemented Energising Development (EnDev) Programme Ethiopia. He highlighted the strong partnership with ESEDA, celebrating its achievements and leadership potential in sector growth, carbon financing and government collaboration, and shared lessons from best practices. ESEDA’s Acting Manager, Yemissirach Sisay, presented the strategic plan, emphasizing three working groups with key goals: ◽ Goal 1: Enhance support for mobilizing financing within the solar energy sector, led by Working Group 1. ◽ Goal 2: Strengthen policy advocacy efforts, managed by Working Group 2. ◽Goal 3: Advance the development of Ethiopia’s solar energy sector, overseen by Working Group 3. ESEDA’s current initiatives, including partnerships to enhance networking, knowledge sharing, and organizational development with GIZ, were also highlighted. During the workshop, the working groups identified key gaps, proposed impactful solutions, crafted an action plan and agreed to establish a platform for exchange and further collaboration. 🔗 The working groups will operate on a two-year cycle and will report regularly to sector stakeholders. 🌍 With all eyes on #COP29, the #energytransition remains off course, undermining our ability to meet the 1.5°C climate goal. It is not too late, but an immediate course correction is needed to bring the world back on track. International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) recently launched 'World Energy Transitions Outlook'. The report identifies key actions needed to realign the global energy transition with climate objectives: ✅Building the necessary infrastructure; ✅Advancing a policy and regulatory architecture that can facilitate targeted investments, ✅Strategic realignment of institutional capacities to help ensure that skills and capabilities match an energy system that integrates a high share of renewables. ✅International collaboration to channel funding in the #GlobalSouth, highlighting the significance of a global climate finance deal at #COP29.
