Great news for clean transportation: U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $18.6 million in funding for 15 projects that are working to make clean transportation options more available, accessible, and affordable nationwide. This funding through DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Office aligns with strategies of the National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization to "address energy justice, fuel the economy, create good paying jobs, and expand access to cutting-edge technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create healthier communities." PowerFlex recently threw a Driver Day event with Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. celebrating the opening of their beautiful new Garden Garage parking structure in San Diego where 175 PowerFlex EV chargers have been installed so far. Did you know that there are two main ways to participate in Virtual Power Plants (VPPs)? You can participate on the demand side by connecting smart appliances, thermostats, and EV chargers that automatically reduce their energy needs when the grid is stressed (this is barely noticeable to users but collectively provides a significant impact to the grid). Or you can participate in grid services on the supply side. In this way, you can use your own assets like solar panels and energy storage systems to generate and store electricity that can be optimized to meet your business needs as well as be sold to the grid for revenue.
