Just wrapped up a great experience at #BUILDEXVancouver, and one theme stood out: 2025 Might be a Breaking Wave for Construction AI adoption, fluctuating regulations, rising costs, and looming U.S. tariffs are colliding with the urgent demand for housing. A flood of new materials, sustainability targets like NetZero, and rapidly evolving digital tools—from automation to predictive analytics—are reshaping how we build. With so many moving parts, the challenge isn’t just adapting—it’s staying ahead. A few key takeaways: 🧬 "Connection Before Content"—Building trust and commonality is essential before diving into solutions. - Melina Scholefield 🦾 Many companies are doubling down on AI for document automation and agents, but what’s the real ROI? How can we leverage it to improve actual productivity? - Shawn Gray 📈 Costs Trends: They're going up, simple as that. Following the #Contech Showcase at #BuildexBC, showcase contestants and audience members joined us at Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar for deeper collaboration and round table discussion. Of the many great topics we covered, one thing left me thinking. We mobilized the #AI Adoption Initiative because of stakeholders from industry and technology agreed gaps in the Canadian ecosystem are preventing local adoption, causing local tech firms to leave the Canadian market and industry left with what they find on Google or major expos. However, Harley T. of SALUS raised an interesting aspect. When it comes to safety, adoption is easy in Canada. Canadian culture around workforce health and wellness is leagues ahead of the US. The US looks at safety as a cost (ok so do Canadian firms) but in a hyper capitalist economy, does business profitability take a higher priority over human health, wellness, and safety? The stats clearly say so. Can the US afford that line of thinking? No. The US has even deeper workforce gaps and infrastructure deficits than Canada. #contech is a critical necessity but ultimately we need people. And why would people want to enter an industry where their health and wellness has such little value in the eyes of the business? This is such a critical topic, I’ll be advancing plans to engage the US market. Not just about technology or safety, but the wholistic conversation on addressing #workforce, #productivity, and profitability One of the most powerful value propositions of the Prairies Proptech Association is our ability to break down silos and assemble a diverse stakeholder group to engage in more wholistic and action-oriented conversations addressing key industry challenges. It’s not about selling technology. It’s about bringing the right people to the table. It’s not about just talking. It’s about producing actionable initiatives to address those challenges.
