🌊 Have you heard about World Fisheries Day? Today, November 21st, people around the world take a moment to highlight the vital role healthy ocean ecosystems play in ensuring sustainable stocks of fisheries, as well as supporting the welfare and safety of those who rely on them. 🔄 At PRIMED Project, we collaborate with fishing communities in our Living Lab 3 in Ligura, Italy (led by FI.L.S.E. S.p.A. - Ligurian Financial Agency for Economic Development ) to explore innovative ways of using fisheries waste. By turning them into bio-based materials such as biostimulants, biocosmetics, and food ingredients, we validate and demonstrate new value chains. These efforts help diversify incomes, improve resource use, and create new opportunities within the fishery sector. 📌 It’s time for another #BioPills post - this one from BBioNets! 😉 ♻️The #CircularBioeconomy in primary production focuses on maximising #biomass utilisation within the #agriculture, #forestry, and #food production sectors, all with the goal of enhancing #sustainability.🌱 Earlier this year, our Forest and Agriculture Networks organised a series of workshops to identify the key biomass #resources available and assess their current #applications across the six #BBioNets countries (Ireland, Spain, Greece, Italy, Poland, and the Czech Republic). 💡 🔎 The #FANs also worked to pinpoint and prioritise the essential processing #needs necessary for a socio-ecological transition towards a fully circular economy. 📝 Our first #article, prepared by project partner Teagasc, provides an insightful synopsis of the collected information. This week our work on preparing the collective action as the first step of building #sharedagendas for systems change within the PRIMED Project took us to VTT 🇫🇮. Exploring the strategic framework for bioeconomy development and its intersection with smart specialisation strategies (#S3) is always an exciting exercise, but doing so in one of the best innovation environments in Europe is too big an opportunity (the Helsinki-Uusimaa region ranked 2nd out of 239 in the last Regional Innovation Scoreboard). I look forward to improving our understanding on how to build long-term strategic agreements upon learning by practice in such an exceptional landscape.
