Today I had the pleasure of joining Soaring Eagle Dairy in Newton, Wisconsin. Milking about 1,200 head three times daily, this family operation strives to "work smarter, not harder" and rapidly respond to animal needs. I followed the team in herd checks and treating animals for various conditions including ketosis, mastitis, and retained placentas. I saw the parlor in-action and met heifer calves awaiting pickup and shipment to Colorado; there the heifers will grow, be bred, and be shipped back to Soaring Eagle in time for calving. A special thank-you to Professional Dairy Producers for arranging this Mentor Program; I appreciate your investment in my learning!
