  • In the aftermath of Trump's presidency, federal lawyers are facing a tough choice: stay and fight or move on?🤔 Some are urged to "ride it out" and remain in their roles, using their positions as a defense against his policies. Others are being told to look for opportunities in Democrat-led states, continuing their battle in new arenas. During a recent webinar, PRP's Founder and CEO, Jill Habig, hit the nail on the head: "Of course you should be expected as a federal employee to set aside your personal political views or policy views. But you don’t have to be expected — and you shouldn’t be expected — to set aside your legal and ethical obligations."⚖️ In this polarized moment, these legal professionals are standing at a crossroads, where their commitment to justice could shape the future of our democracy. • Our civil rights are at stake. Public Rights Project can help. With your support, PRP provides local government officials with the capacity and community they need to fight for civil rights. And our approach is working. In response to numerous attacks on election officials and assaults on voting rights, we launched our first-ever Election Protection Hub (EPH) in 2024. Some of our wins include: - Serving 204 local election officials in 136 jurisdictions in 22 states. - Collaborating with nearly 30 election clerks on a bipartisan brief to urge the Michigan Supreme Court to hold rogue election workers accountable. - Taking action in six states and nationally to protect and advance abortion access by thwarting efforts to keep it off the ballot. In Arizona and Missouri, we won! Building upon the success of our EPH model, we are launching the Civil Rights Hub, with a goal of serving 200 local government officials in 75 jurisdictions in 2025. It will serve as our primary support system to help local governments push back against the Trump administration’s efforts to erode reproductive rights, immigrant rights, local democracy, and economic justice and security. • In a new op-ed in Law360, PRP partner and Bucks County Commissioner, Bob Harvie, explains the flurry of election litigation that Pennsylvania—like many other battleground states—has faced, with mail-in and provisional ballots at the heart of several cases. He writes how ensuring voters and constituents are confident in the process and are able to separate fact from hyperbolic rhetoric is essential, and how it can mean the difference between a vote being counted and not. Understanding the landscape can also be crucial for lawyers willing to give their time to support voting rights in the coming weeks and months. This op-ed is one of several ways Bob has been using his voice as an election official to lift up accurate information about Pennsylvania's election system and dispel misinformation. He also joined PRP as a panelist in our media briefing on election-related misinformation, supporting journalists in their efforts to report accurately. And he was a member of our coalition of 34 PA officials successfully advocating in the courts for the use of provisional ballots as a crucial safeguard in Pennsylvania’s election process. Bob is a great example of the many election officials working tirelessly to ensure our election system is safe and robust. Read his op-ed here: https://lnkd.in/gX-WbJ9C
