This Giving Tuesday, help give children a lead-free future. Pure Earth has been recognized as one of the Best Global Health Charities for Giving Tuesday 2024 by Vox, and this year, we’re celebrating 25 years of solving pollution and saving lives. In places like Bangladesh, where 60% of children suffer from lead poisoning, your support has made a world of difference. Thanks to donors like you, we’ve been able to address life-threatening lead exposure from contaminated spices and informal battery recycling. Take Shaila’s community in Mirzapur, for example. Lead from abandoned battery recycling factories had devastating effects on families. But with your help, we cleaned up the area—and the results were astounding. Within a year, children’s blood lead levels dropped, and the community began to thrive. See how your generosity is changing lives: https://lnkd.in/eQhe4ehi This holiday season, you can help us bring hope to thousands more children. Every dollar you donate through December 31st will be matched—doubling your impact—up to $25,000, thanks to two of our generous board members. Donate today to double your impact: https://lnkd.in/etPzBADv Together, we can protect children, empower communities, and create a healthier, lead-free future. #GivingTuesday #SolvePollutio #GlobalHealth #LeadFreeFuture

Pure Earth was honored to participate in the World Bank Regional Dialogue on Mercury and E-Waste Pollution Management in Tanzania earlier this month. Rev. Dr. Esmond Quansah, Pure Earth Ghana's Country Director, shared our innovative copper plate technology to remove mercury from gold mining tailings. Dr. Quansah also participated in a panel discussion on mercury-free mineral processing, sharing insights on reducing pollution and advancing sustainable practices. This vital gathering was part of the Africa Environmental Health and Pollution Management Program, aimed at addressing pressing environmental issues and explore sustainable solutions across participating African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, and Zambia, along with other international organizations. Excited to share that Pure Earth México's Operations Coordinator, Netzy Peralta, was recently featured in Fast Company México! Pure Earth Mexico leads efforts to eliminate lead exposure from traditional pottery by eradicating the use of toxic lead glazes. Through programs like Circle of Women and Barro Aprobado, we collaborate with potter communities, restauranteurs, and government stakeholders to promote awareness and access to lead-free pottery nationwide. In Toxic Clay: A Nahuatl anthropologist's fight to eliminate lead from Mexican pottery, Priscila Peñaranda highlights how "[Pure Earth Mexico] invited [Peralta] to be part of the 'Barro Aprobado' project, while conducting research with potters as part of her PhD." “Netzy has delved so deeply into the art of pottery that she has managed to get entire communities to now produce lead-free clay,” said Rosario Crespo Aguilar, a member of the Circle of Pottery Families in Tlayacapan, Morelos. The article underscores Netzy’s commitment to supporting artisan potters, reducing lead exposure among Mexican children, and creating opportunities for decent work in pottery communities. Excited to see Pure Earth recognized in Inside Philanthropy! 🎉 In a recent article, Laurie Udesky highlights Open Philanthropy’s transformative commitment to addressing preventable public health issues through the Lead Exposure Action Fund (LEAF). Pure Earth was specifically mentioned as a grantee of LEAF, supporting critical efforts like making lead-acid battery recycling safer in Indonesia and piloting interventions to eliminate lead in cookware in India. Udesky writes: "Lead exposure elimination only gets about $15 million of philanthropic funding annually, just 1% of philanthropic funding provided to other neglected diseases." LEAF’s $104M commitment through 2027—including $20M already awarded—is a game changer for reducing the global burden of lead exposure. We're grateful to be part of this groundbreaking work to create a lead-free future! Read more: https://lnkd.in/exPhvB4M #LeadFreeFuture #SolveLeadPollution #GlobalHealth #Philanthropy
