Help your pets live 𝓱𝓪𝓹𝓹𝓲𝓵𝔂 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓪𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓻... a severe cold spell is coming our way... protect your pets. Please share! Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for your pet, so keep your animals inside. If left outdoors, pets can freeze and become disoriented. In addition, don’t leave pets alone in a car during cold weather. Keep your home humidified and be sure to towel dry your pet as soon as they come inside. Pay close attention to their feet and in-between their toes and remove any snow balls from between their foot pads to prevent and treat skin irritation in the winter. Massage petroleum jelly or other vet-approved paw protectants into paw pads before going outside to protect from salt and chemical agents. Booties can help too (if your dog will wear them). Use pet-friendly ice melts whenever possible. Never shave your dog down to the skin in winter. A longer coat will provide more warmth. After each walk, make sure to wash and dry your pet's feet and stomach to remove ice, salt and chemicals. Don't forget to check for cracks in paw pads or redness between the toes with a towel. Bathe your pets as little as possible during cold spells. Washing too often can remove essential oils. Thoroughly clean up any anitfreeze spills. Like coolant, antifreeze is a lethal for dogs and cats. Feed your pet a little extra in the winter months. Pets burn extra energy by trying to stay warm in wintertime and can provide much-needed calories, and making sure they have plenty of water to drink will help keep them well-hydrated and their skin less dry. Make sure your companion animal has a warm place to sleep. Never let your dog off leash on snow or ice, especially during a snowstorm. Dogs can lose their scent in the snow and easily become lost. Make sure your dog always wears an ID tag. Be sure to keep these tips top of mind this winter so that you and your furry friends can stay warm, cozy and safe. #dog #dogs #servicedogteam #servicedogtraining #servicedog #Veteran #supportournonprofit #putnamcounty #puppyraisers #PutnamServiceDogs #westchestercounty #fairfieldcounty #puppyraiser #puppyraiserswanted #JoinOurTeam

𝓐𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝔂 𝓵𝓲𝓿𝓮𝓭 𝓱𝓪𝓹𝓹𝓲𝓵𝔂 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓪𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓻... Why our nonprofit organization Putnam Service Dogs is Unique... Our dogs choose their recipient. Read our latest blog here: https://lnkd.in/eaEyy-jQ Our dogs are the ultimate decision maker on who they’ll be matched with. If the dog isn’t keen on the person, it’s no match. We match an applicant’s needs, lifestyle, and home situation, for both our service or release dogs. Then a Meet & Greet is held for the dog to show us if there’s chemistry between the team. Does the dog greet the applicant, and initially stay with them, or does the dog ignore them? On their first walk together, is the dog happy to be walking next to them – loose leash, tail wagging, frequently checking in, or does the dog look away, is unresponsive, and even appears untrained? We film their initial walk to study the body language carefully. Our dogs are the final decision maker. Our dogs are Free to their person - someone living a difficult life. A person with physical disabilities other than blindness, or a Veteran with PTSD. More info? 𝓐𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝔂 𝓵𝓲𝓿𝓮𝓭 𝓱𝓪𝓹𝓹𝓲𝓵𝔂 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓪𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓻... For Kate, having Duke as a service dog means she has more independence and confidence in the daily activities of life.
