  • We, as healthcare professionals, and human beings are deeply shocked and saddened by the horrifying news of the death of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UHC this morning in NYC. QCC and UHC may disagree on policy issues regarding patient access to quality care, but Brian Thompson and QCC shared the same goal: to protect and save patient lives through accessible quality healthcare. We morn his loss along with all of us in the healthcare community. Prayers for strength to his family, friends and colleagues. https://lnkd.in/euctRW27

Healthcare. Affordable and accessible healthcare for everyone, everywhere.

𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞: Who's Winning? (Hint: Not Your Doctor) Picture this: Two workers, same job, same skills. One gets a raise. The other is a pay cut. Welcome to Medicare's reimbursement world. Hospitals? They're getting a boost. Physicians? They're tightening their belts. Again. It's like telling the pilot to fly longer hours while giving the airline more fuel. Here's the kicker: Medicare isn't bargain-hunting. It doesn't negotiate. It dictates. "This is what we'll pay," says Medicare. You can take it or leave it. The result? • Hospitals expand • Doctors rush • Patients wonder why finding a good primary care physician feels like searching for a unicorn We're building a healthcare system that values buildings over builders, systems over specialists, procedures over prevention. It's not just about fair pay. It's about the future of care. When we squeeze physicians, we're not just pinching pockets. We're reshaping healthcare itself. We're saying: • Quantity over quality • Volume over value • Reaction over prevention Is this the healthcare we want? A system where the front-line healers are devalued while the institutions housing them are enriched? The question isn't "How do we adjust reimbursement rates?" It's "How do we redefine value in healthcare?" Your move, policymakers. The health of a nation is in your hands. #healthcare

Another great read by the Honorable Diane Ravitch. Greedy insurance brokers and consultants convinced union leaders to force their retirees into Medicare advantage. It didn’t play out so well. https://lnkd.in/gK4k8s3Y

Today my team sat down with our insurance broker. My health insurance premium for my employees went up 30% for our renewal. The government cut their pay to me and all doctors by 3.37% this year for the first two months then reduced the cut to 1.66% for the remainder of the year. I’m tired of paid mouthpieces telling Congress and Americans that doctors are the reason for our high healthcare costs. If you agree with me, share this post and let your friends and colleagues know where the money in healthcare is going. Hint: it isn’t to doctors

  • How many stories do we have to hear and read about so-called “insurance companies” denying essential coverage? Denying access to quality healthcare and access to critical therapies? Repost, share, and most importantly… realize the impacts real people face each day, with each random denial for access to care.

Two years ago my daughter Penny was diagnosed with Type 3 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at 8 years old. SMA is a genetic disorder that affects the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness and ongoing atrophy. Type 3 SMA typically manifests in children after early childhood and can impact their ability to walk, run, and perform other physical activities.  Thanks to prompt medical intervention and the life-altering medication Evrysdi, she has been able to maintain her strength and mobility, relative to her body's natural growth and aging. While Evrysdi doesn’t cure SMA, it helps to stop ongoing atrophy, preventing further muscle weakness. We have been with Select Health as our insurance provider, and up until this year, they covered Evrysdi, which has been crucial for our daughter's health and well-being. However, this year, without any warning or justification, Select Health suddenly stopped covering this necessary drug, labeling it as non-essential. What’s worse is the lack of communication and transparency. For 3 months, we were caught in a back-and-forth with no clear answers. It wasn't until we received a letter last week—stating that our doctor's appeal had been denied—that we got our first formal information from Select Health. I’ve tried repeatedly to get someone on the phone to explain why this decision was made and how it can be justified, but to no avail. The abrupt termination of coverage for such a critical medication is unacceptable and puts my daughter's health at risk. What’s most concerning is the impact on Penny’s health if she loses access to Evrysdi. Without this medication, Penny faces an increase in rapid muscle atrophy, which will severely limit her mobility and independence, leading to greater reliance on her wheelchair and further deterioration of her muscle function. This outlook can get even darker as you can imagine but I'm not gonna go there. This drug is not just important—it’s essential for her quality of life and future well-being. I'm really not the person who complains, and especially via posts on Social Media about my problems, but I feel powerless at this point. I want to shout from the rooftops to share our story with the hope that the power of social media can bring attention to this issue. I'd take any support to repost this and share this as a way to urge Select Health to reconsider their decision and reinstate coverage for Evrysdi. Please share our story and help us hold Select Health accountable. Maybe they will step up and do the right thing. Attention all health policy docs…. This is your chance to turn your online voice into action. Next month we have our House Call on the Mall. The event is led by Congressman John Joyce, MD, and is fully focused on health policy. The meeting kicks off with a breakfast then a reception and VIP round table at the end of the day. In between those events, there is no set legislative agenda and you are welcome to schedule Hill visits with your Members! Congressman Joyce will block out his entire day and multiple legislators will swing by throughout the day. If you are interested, please click/copy the link below: https://lnkd.in/gavJzKZn Questions? Contact Stacie Monroe at monroe@thedocshop.org Last year we had nearly 100 attendees and over 20 legislators, but I want to show an even greater number this year. Please get out and tell Congress what is important to you as practicing physicians!
