Faith-based leadership is influential for furthering solar adoption nationwide. 💒☀️ ⚡Through installing 114 solar panels in partnership with RE-volv and Capital Energy, LLC, Desert Garden UCC lives their values of environmental stewardship and community service. Their solar array powers their church and illuminates a pathway for other faith organizations to save money and “care for God’s creation.” 💪From food security to accessible transportation programs, Pastor Bill Utke and his congregation are excited for solar savings of $14,000 annually to support their community. With federal reimbursement covering 30% of the project’s cost made possible through the IRA, these benefits will reach even farther across the US. Building Community Through Solar.
About us
RE-volv is a climate justice nonprofit that empowers people to bring clean energy to their communities. We do this by providing solar financing to community-serving nonprofits nationwide, while educating the next generation of clean energy professionals. Over the past decade, RE-volv has supported over 70 nonprofits across 18 states make the switch to solar, which moving forward are eligible for Direct Pay tax incentives for nonprofits a part of the Inflation Reduction Act. With a focus on solarizing nonprofits in low-to-middle-income communities and BIPOC communities, we’ve seen real progress toward a just energy transition through solar education and nonprofits reinvesting solar savings into the community.

114 New Solar Panels in Sun City West, Arizona 🎀 ☀️ That’s right. Yesterday, Desert Garden United Church of Christ, in partnership with RE-volv, held a solar energy celebration for their new 47 kW solar array, sized to generate 100% of the church’s energy needs. 👏 With solar, they will be saving $14,000 annually that they’ll put back into community-serving initiatives like: 🚲 Cycles of Kindness: A bike program that collects used bicycles, repairing them, and donating them to schools in low-income communities and homeless shelters. 🍋 Citrus Gleaning: A hunger relief effort where members gather for regular citrus pick ups and donate the produce to St. Mary's Food Bank. State Senator Lauren Kuby shared, “This investment at Desert Garden United Church of Christ represents proactive movement toward a clean energy future. And they are not alone. Places of worship across the State are modeling how solar is good for our communities and our wallets.” The church’s array will have a ripple impact of solar in the community! Capital Energy, LLC offered a $1,000 donation to the church for anyone who goes solar at home as a result. Shout out to Solar United Neighbors, Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans and Arizona Interfaith Power and Light for tabling at the event, sharing solar + energy efficiency resources. Veterans are championing solar energy in South Carolina. ☀️ Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10804 went solar with RE-volv in 2018. The VFW provides financial help, job training, and a place to share stories for combat veterans. Post 10804 was the first VFW organization in the country to install solar energy on their building.👏 With solar, they will save over $40,000 on their energy bills over the lifetime of the system, allowing the VFW to continue providing services to veterans of foreign wars for years to come. 📢 Shoutout to RE-volv Solar Ambassador College Fellows from Coastal Carolina University for leading this effort. Exciting, powerful, and accessible ☀️💪 On February 8th, RE-volv’s Community Programs Manager, Ingrid M. and RE-volv’s Solar Account Manager, Marques Mason, joined Wattskanda and California Interfaith Power & Light (CIPL) to help lead a Resiliency Workshop at Calvary Resurrectional Baptist Church in Compton, CA. Calvary Resurrectional Baptist Church was inspired to start their solar journey with RE-volv after their neighbor congregation, The Watts-Willowbrook Church of Christ, celebrated their solar and soon-to-be-installed battery storage system. Calvary’s workshop illuminated how nonprofit organizations can protect their communities and save money by becoming climate resiliency hubs, similar to The Brook. Resiliency hubs are designed to meet the expanding needs of their communities. During the workshop, community members shared their experiences surrounding the recent devastation from the LA wildfires, including expressing concerns around future air quality. Community members also learned about practical climate solutions, ranging from DIY air filter demonstrations with USC students to how solar and battery storage systems can keep the lights on during power outages. In preparing for the future of community safety and resiliency during climate disasters, Ingrid M., RE-volv’s Community Programs Manager, has confidence in the ability for “elected officials and representatives to work together with community-based organizations and community leaders in designing and building resiliency hubs that meet the needs of the local environment.” On January 7th, wildfires began devastating lives, homes, and businesses across Los Angeles County as a dozen fires burned through 500,000 acres of southern California and left more than 1.2 million people without power. Seeing the need for immediate, on-the-ground support, Ingrid volunteered with World Central Kitchen (WCK) to offer free meals to those affected by the Eaton fire in Altadena. Alongside WCK, Ingrid highlighted the importance of collaboration between community-serving organizations in a crisis. From multicultural places of worship to community centers to local restaurants and small businesses, groups have come together to provide essentials ranging from food and water to clothing, diapers, and toys for displaced families. With climate adaptation in mind, RE-volv and California Interfaith Power & Light recently worked with The Brook in Compton, CA to kick start their journey to becoming a resiliency hub, with a solar and soon-to-be-installed battery storage system, allowing them to keep the lights on during outages and provide clean, filtered air during unhealthy air quality days. The Brook’s resiliency journey inspired Calvary Resurrectional Baptist Church in Compton to make the decision to go solar as well! This past weekend, RE-volv, in partnership with California Interfaith Power & Light and Wattskanda, hosted a resiliency workshop at Calvary. Stay tuned as we share about the event!

IT'S NOT "DOING VIDEO." It's building a library. That's maybe the biggest takeaway from my new podcast interview with Andreas Karelas. His organization, RE-volv, does extraordinary work in the solar and clean energy space. Storytelling is central to their mission. There are so many gems in this interview. But this is a big one: when you commit to video as a part of your storytelling strategy, you eventually develop a collection that gives anyone interested a fuller understanding of what you do and why you do it.
