A new study published by SystemiQ with support from The Recycling Partnership, Eunomia Research & Consulting and Closed Loop Partners presents a blueprint for transforming PET packaging and polyester textiles in the U.S. If current trends continue, PET/polyester consumption could grow 1.5 times by 2040, creating enough non-recycled waste to fill 750,000 garbage trucks annually and driving GHG emissions. The study highlights the potential of proven circular solutions – like reducing avoidable material use, scaling reuse, refill and resale, and expanding mechanical & depolymerization recycling – to deliver significant environmental and economic benefits by 2040. This America Recycles Day, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the power of partnership! Over the past decade, with the support of our funders, policymakers, and communities nationwide, we’ve: ✅ Diverted 1 billion pounds of recyclables from landfills ✅ Avoided over 1 million metric tons of CO₂ ✅ Provided over 2 million recycling carts to households across the U.S. Why does delivering carts matter? Because access is key. There are still more than 30 million U.S. households without access to recycling, and together, we’re closing that gap every single day. This is what’s possible when we all work together toward a common goal! See our collective impact in action. #TheRecyclingPartnership #recyclingmatters #AmericaRecyclesDay
