But just like sports, no matter how much potential a rookie shows, they may turn into a bust without the right mentorship and leadership.
Mentors are the unsung heroes behind every success story. They are the navigators who guide us through turbulent waters, the coaches who push us beyond our limits, and the cheerleaders who celebrate our victories, no matter how small.
BUT, and this is a big, big but, this journey isn't always a direct path. Founder @ Reddy | Turn Rookies into All-Stars with AI
Everyone knows the feeling of showing up to their first day of work at a new job: a pit of fear in your stomach, a million questions you’re afraid to ask, and a million more questions you don’t even know to ask. All you want to do is get up to speed quickly, but that will take a lot of mentorship and coaching that your manager might not have the time or patience for.
Training doesn’t need to be this way anymore. I recently had the opportunity to answer the question, "Why did you start Reddy?” and figured this was a great opportunity to share more about what Jake Duth and I have been building.
Our entrepreneurial journeys have been anything but conventional. I started as a high schooler trying to turn a buck by orchestrating makeshift parking lots and eventually oversaw multi-million dollar animated film franchises. Nothing has been more impactful to my varied career than hands-on learning and coaching from workplace mentors.
After being given the opportunity to co-found a higher education startup, I had the unique opportunity to witness the in-person user experience of e-training. It turns out that after 30 years of software development, even content from the great minds at Harvard, Yale, Meta, and IBM... kind of stinks! Learners click through every lesson as fast as they can, take every quiz as fast as they can - it didn’t match the skill development afforded to me in my real-world education.
Many businesses function the same way. The CEOs I have met with are just as guilty as the college students of having skipped through the latest online training course assigned to them. Unsurprisingly, new hires who just showed up for their first day of work are also not gaining value from these systems, especially in high-turnover roles such as sales and support.
