About us

Reduce Recidivism Now is dedicated to transforming the criminal justice system by providing comprehensive, evidence-based resources to support the successful reintegration of offenders into society. Our mission is to reduce recidivism rates, improve community safety, and alleviate the financial burden on the criminal justice system through practical and innovative solutions. Our Approach: Educational Programs: We offer access to GED preparation, vocational training, and post-secondary education opportunities to equip individuals with the skills needed for employment. Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment: Comprehensive treatment options, including telehealth services, therapy, and peer support, address the underlying issues contributing to criminal behavior. Community Engagement: We foster partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to provide support & create a sense of belonging for returning citizens. Employment Opportunities: By connecting individuals with employers willing to hire those with criminal records, we help them secure stable jobs and build a foundation for a successful reentry. Why It Matters: The United States has one of the highest recidivism rates in the world, with significant costs to taxpayers and communities. Many existing programs focus narrowly on specific aspects, often missing the broader picture. Our program takes a holistic approach, addressing multiple factors to help as many individuals as possible while minimizing costs. Our Commitment: All our resources are available at no cost to sheriffs, jail administrators, and criminal justice professionals. We provide free access to our capstone research, detailed process guidance, and training materials. We are available to consult & offer hands-on support to help implement these strategies effectively. Join us in making a positive impact on our criminal justice system. • Regardless of one’s political stance, the election of a convicted felon as President-elect marks a pivotal moment in American history. For the estimated 19 million Americans—around 8% of the adult population—with felony convictions, it serves as a reminder that their past doesn’t have to define their future (Couloute, 2022). This isn’t about politics. It’s a chance to reconsider how society views those with records and the ways we support or hinder reintegration. As debate over Trump’s charges continues, his role as President-elect raises a broader question: Can we extend the same openness to redemption for all? Reintegration and Second Chances Historically, the U.S. justice system has treated criminal records as permanent stains. Those with resources, like the President-elect, often find smoother paths forward, while others face steep obstacles in housing, employment, and community support. For millions without such resources, this moment raises the question: what if second chances were accessible to everyone? While a convicted felon can lead the country, many jobs remain out of reach. Often, restrictions aren’t based on job duties but instead on licensing regulations. For example: • Insurance Sales • Pest Control • Healthcare Jobs • Private Security • Cosmetology and Barbering Stable employment and supportive communities significantly reduce reoffending. Employment provides stability and connects individuals to society. Supporting second chances is a sound investment in public safety. The President-elect’s success may inspire many, but challenges are steepest for those without resources. Over 70 million Americans have a criminal record and face employment barriers, even in fields unrelated to their past. Revisiting these restrictions could allow more former felons to pursue work, benefiting society. These reforms aren’t radical but rather common-sense measures for a fairer society. This election highlights disparities in our justice system. Reducing barriers to reentry strengthens communities and economies. Prioritizing justice reform gives more people a chance to contribute. We must decide: do we cling to outdated approaches that permanently penalize records, or adopt a balanced approach that values rehabilitation? The election of a convicted felon to the highest office signifies a new era of redemption. It invites us to reconsider how we treat those who’ve paid their debts. While wealth shouldn’t determine who gets a second chance, it often does—and this moment challenges us to imagine a society where opportunities are more accessible. This shift in justice approaches is not only inclusive but effective, building a society where everyone has the chance to contribute. Embracing second chances with fairness and common sense brings us closer to the American promise of hope, redemption, and the chance to start anew.

Today I am happy to announce my new book, Exploring Criminal Justice: The Basics of Ethics and Theory, releasing exclusively at Barnes & Noble on November 7. This book challenges readers to think beyond legal rules and look into the ethical and societal questions that shape our justice system. “Justice is not found solely in enforcing the law; it’s discovered in balancing freedom with accountability, and empathy with responsibility.” Throughout this week, I’ll share insights from the book that dive into these questions. Thank you for joining me on this journey to rethink justice. #CriminalJustice #JusticeReform #EthicsInJustice #NewBook #BarnesAndNobleExclusive #JusticeMatters

A huge thank you to the T. Scott Jones for taking the time to speak to the students of Concord Christian School’s Criminal Justice Society. Despite the challenges of flooding and heavy rain, T. Scott Jones made it a priority to be with us, sharing his invaluable perspective as a defense attorney. He helped our students see a side of the legal system that is often misunderstood—showing that the role of a defense attorney isn’t about defending the crime but defending the person. His discussion emphasized the importance of fairness, justice, and the humanity that comes with helping individuals navigate one of the most difficult moments in their lives. It was a reminder that we don’t often think about the legal help we would want if we were the ones accused. Mr. Jones brought a perspective that many criminal justice students might overlook, making his talk an essential part of their education. We are deeply appreciative of his time, insight, and dedication. #CriminalJustice #LegalDefense #Education #CommunityEngagement #Leadership

  • I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the 2023 FBI crime data. I explore the latest trends in recidivism and its impact on U.S. crime rates. Leveraging newly released FBI 2023 crime data, I dive deep into how repeat offenses are influencing property crime and why rehabilitation is critical for breaking the cycle of reoffending. With violent crime on the decline but property crime—especially motor vehicle theft—on the rise, understanding the role of recidivism has never been more critical. In the article, I also explore how barriers like employment and mental health services contribute to these trends. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and engaging in meaningful discussions! #Recidivism #CriminalJusticeReform #LawEnforcement #CrimeTrends #FBI2023Data #PublicSafety #Rehabilitation #CriminalJustice #JusticeReform #PropertyCrime #CommunitySafety

  • Education is one of the four main pillars in reducing recidivism. When you combine education with the chance to hear directly from someone who both created and enforced laws, you create an environment ripe for impactful discussions and meaningful questions.

It’s been amazing to see how much the students in the Concord Christian School’s Criminal Justice Society are growing! Last week, they had the privilege of hearing from the Honorable Douglas Overbey retired State Senator and former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee. The students’ questions are becoming more thoughtful and insightful with each guest speaker. Of course, it helps that Doug brought a wealth of knowledge from his career in lawmaking and enforcement, and their engagement made the time fly by. It’s always a pleasure to see Doug, and I’m so grateful for his willingness to share his experience with the next generation. Thank you, Doug! #CriminalJustice #Education #Leadership #Gratitude #Community
