We don’t have to reinvent the planet. We just need to rewild it. For all wildkind.

About us

Re:wild protects and restores the wild. We have a singular and powerful focus: the wild as the most effective solution to the interconnected climate, biodiversity and human health crises. Founded by a group of renowned conservation scientists together with Leonardo DiCaprio, Re:wild is a force multiplier that brings together Indigenous peoples, local communities, influential leaders, nongovernmental organizations, governments, companies and the public to protect and rewild at the scale and speed we need. Re:wild launched in 2021 combining more than three decades of conservation impact by Leonardo DiCaprio and Global Wildlife Conservation, leveraging expertise, partnerships and platforms to bring new attention, energy and voices together. Our vital work has protected and conserved over 12 million acres benefitting more than 16,000 species in the world’s most irreplaceable places for biodiversity. We don’t need to reinvent the planet. We just need to rewild it—for all wildkind. Learn more at rewild.org. #rewild #wild #teamrewild #wildlife #rewildtheworld #extinctionendshere #lostspecies

Beef production is fueling deforestation globally—and Australia is no exception. Over half the country's land is used for grazing, with some of the most at-risk forests cleared for space to raise cattle. This impacts habitats of threatened species like Koalas and Pink Cockatoos. https://lnkd.in/eJhWD8aG Australia’s beef industry is a major driver of deforestation, with over 16,000 hectares of forest cleared in recent years to make way for cattle. The Australian Conservation Foundation is urging supermarkets like Coles and Woolworths to commit to deforestation-free beef sourcing, following in the footsteps of international brands like Aldi and Tesco. It's time to shift away from the destructive practices of animal agriculture and invest in sustainable alternatives that protect our planet's forests and wildlife. #Deforestation #SustainableFood #EndAnimalAgriculture #RewildYourFridge

Meet the Banteng, a wild cattle species once abundant across Southeast Asia. Its populations are disappearing, and the species has just been reassessed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Because species like the Banteng are crucial for maintaining healthy forests, this drastic decline underscores a significant threat to Southeast Asian ecosystems. But there is still hope! In Thailand’s Western Forest Complex, Banteng populations are on the rise due to strong, long-term conservation efforts. This success story shows the power of collaborative protection, and underscores the urgent need for rewilding initiatives. Protecting and expanding habitats, increasing anti-poaching measures, and rewilding species like the Banteng are crucial steps to not only save this species but also restore Southeast Asia’s delicate ecosystems. Re:wild is working alongside the IUCN Asian Wild Cattle Specialist Group (@IUCN_wildcattle) and other partners to conserve wild cattle like Banteng, Tamaraw, and Saola. Together, we’re focusing on species protection, rewilding efforts, and restoring ecosystems critical to biodiversity. The updated Red List, live on October 28th, highlights the urgent need to act before it's too late. #Conservation #WildCattle #Banteng #EndangeredSpecies #Rewild

This Native American Heritage Month, we honor the Indigenous Peoples of Southeast Alaska and their centuries of stewardship of the Stikine River watershed and surrounding temperate rainforest in Wrangell, where culture, language and art reflect the rivers, mountains, forest, and sea. Here, salmon run through the rivers, sustaining the land and the Tlingit culture. Millions of salmon return each year, and each harvest is taken with care so that the ancient, life-giving cycle remains unbroken for generations to come. Wrangell’s incredible biodiversity includes coastal wolves, Black and Brown bears, and centuries-old, towering Sitka spruce. Yellow Cedar, also native here, is cherished by the Tlingit for its durability and is used to craft totem poles, masks, and canoes, preserving cultural stories and artistry across generations. These trees and animal are kin, woven into Tlingit heritage. This is all threatened by rapid industrialization and mining development occurring across the US-Canada border, in the headwaters of the Stikine River. Stand with Re:wild, Southeast Alaska Indigenous Transboundary Commission (SEITC) and the Tlingit to protect this unique ecosystem and culture that are inseparable. Sign the open letter >>> avaaz.org/SoutheastAlaska and call on the Canadian government to recognize the sovereign rights of the Southeast Alaska Tribes and fulfill its duty to consult them on all development decisions impacting their traditional territories. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #ProtectIndigenousLands #Indigenous #IndigenousVoices #Alaska #AlaskaWildlife

In Brazil, a shocking new deforestation method is devastating ecosystems: chemical deforestation. >> https://lnkd.in/gy3NYVap This method involves herbicides rather than chainsaws, and is harder to detect through satellite imagery because it mimics natural tree death. A recent case exposes rancher Claudecy Oliveira Lemes, who allegedly hired planes to spray herbicides across 300 square miles of Pantanal forest, intentionally killing trees to make way for cattle pastures. Authorities found containers of toxic chemicals and flight record evidence. Chemical deforestation not only leaves trees lifeless and gray but contaminates soil and water, endangering wildlife and local communities. This practice exemplifies the lengths the meat industry will go to for profit—even at the expense of our most critical forests. With global demand driving deforestation, the choice is ours: it’s time to pivot towards plant-based diets and reduce reliance on industries destroying irreplaceable ecosystems. Join us today to #RewildYourFridge.

🍄 Last month, Chile and the UK proposed that fungi should be placed alongside animals and plants as a separate group for environmental protection. 🟢 We couldn't agree more 👏 learn more - https://lnkd.in/enVyJ_7e At Re:wild, we recognize the three kingdoms of macroscopic life: fauna, flora and FUNGA. Fungi comprise their own kingdom altogether and we believe it’s time to recognize their critical role in keeping our planet keepin’ on! The truth is we can’t live without fungi. Fungi are also powerful allies in carbon capture, particularly in soils. 🌏 If we are going to effectively address the interconnected triple crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and human health, we must recognize how fungi connect the world. We cannot rewild it without them. 📸: 1. Cortinarius magellanicus - Giuliana Furci, 2. Marasmius - Giuliana Furci, 3. Creditos Catalina Infante - Fundación Fungi, 4. I'm incredibly honored to share that I'll be joining the Expedition for Women Leading in Nature. Women play an important role in conservation globally, and our voices are fundamental in meeting the environmental challenges of today. I’m excited to explore what it means to lead through a unique approach that is the Women Emerging framework. Together with other women in the community, we can redefine leading and create an understanding of what leadership means in the conservation sector. Let’s make this journey powerful and uplifting for all of us! Re:wild Conservation Vietnam #inspiringwomen #womeninleadership #inclusiveleadership #empoweredwomen #leadingchange

Staying true to our brand value of undaunted, we are launching our newest expedition for Women #leading in Nature today! Nature is also one of the pieces of #Essence identified in the first expedition, and it's very close to all of our hearts whether we know it or not. The expedition is particularly exciting for that reason - because nature itself really feeds into the way that we lead. This expedition is in partnership with Re:wild. Watch this space for more!

They say the end of one journey is the start of another. 👀 "Discover" what that means: https://lnkd.in/ekdWFXye 🟢 As #LostSpeciesMonth comes to a close, we are reminded that we cannot protect what we don’t know! Re:wild and our partners around the globe continue to be optimistic for every new rediscovery - which has the potential to drive meaningful conservation impact. 📸: Rowan Nicholson #lostspecies #wildlife
