Finally, Something Is Happening and it affects us all. That's what I thought when I was invited to the Digital Twin Transformation event hosted by the KI-Allianz Baden-Württemberg. The main topic: Using digital transformation and sustainability strategies as a competitive advantage. Jens Strüker from the Fraunhofer Blockchain-Labor presented four major obstacles currently hindering progress: ▪ Data is hard to obtain. ▪ The available data is incomplete or inaccurate. ▪ Companies are unwilling to share data because they don’t trust each other. ▪ Data sharing within companies is often difficult or impossible. Anyone who has ever worked on a sustainability report is familiar with these challenges. At the end of the year, a report must be compiled, requiring all the ESG-mandated data. According to Marlene O'Sullivan from badenova, there is often a lack of knowledge about which data is needed, how to collect it, and where to find it within the company. In addition, responsibility for the data poses a problem. According to CDO of Stadt FreiburgThomas Wiesler, the issue stems from management and the need for team education. It takes a lot of trust and training to make those responsible for the data more aware of its importance. The clear recommendation: Build up an internal sustainability expert instead of outsourcing the management of this data. Understandably, this creates a lot of pressure on decision-makers, especially with poor data availability, as noted by Felix Zimmermann, who advises family businesses for ESG-Strategy. A potential solution would be to gather sustainability data continuously throughout the year. The technology required must be able to manage real-time data, store it securely, verify it, ensure transparency while maintaining confidentiality, and provide auditability and provenance. Sounds nearly impossible, right? Well, I wasn't at this event for no reason. So, I asked this question: "What technical challenges do you see in implementing digital platforms that manage real-time data for sustainability reporting in a secure and auditable way?" The response: "That hits the heart of the problem." For me, this was confirmation that Filedgr provides the ideal solution for streamlining sustainability reporting and ensuring secure, transparent, and fully compliant data management. This was a fascinating topic for me, and I’m looking forward to attending the next event. Well done to the organizers, David Gelantia and Faissal Esmati, for bringing it to life. What does "It takes a village to raise a child" really mean? Last week, I did not 1 but 2 different Twitter Spaces. It was an interesting experience because basically, we are all chatting online, but we don't see each other's faces or know how everyone is reacting. But nonetheless, it was a great chat with both spaces, 1 with the XRPL cohort that just finished the program. And the other was with Jonathan Hellweg from IOTA, where we got a cohort of startups going through the program. "It takes a village to raise a child" is probably the biggest takeaway I got through the past year. Everyone in the team provides some value in helping the startups overcome their challenges, make introductions and most importantly, celebrate their wins! It brightens up my day when a founder sends a text saying they closed their first customer or got that partnership they were working so hard to get. And this message is shared with the cohort members and it creates an environment where everyone starts to spur each other on. As we step into Q4 of 2024, we are also preparing for the incoming cohorts not only on the Web3 side, but also our own portco for Tenity.
