About us

Rose Acre Farms is currently the second largest egg producer in the US with 15 laying facilities in seven states. We provide a range of commodity shell eggs, specialty eggs, and egg products. Our top priority is to produce the highest quality products with the utmost regard for food safety. As far back as the 1930s, the Rust family began egg production with the largest hen house in Jackson County during that period. The population surge of the 1940s and 1950s initiated a need for farm commodities in major metropolitan areas. Beginning in the 1950s, construction had begun on the first modern chicken houses in Seymour, Indiana. Egg sales were made throughout the local area and regular trips were made to the Indianapolis Farmers Market from the main farms in southern Indiana. As consumer needs changed during the 1980s and 1990s, so did the variety of egg products offered by Rose Acre Farms. As we moved toward the close of the century, Rose Acre Farms had established plants in Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Georgia and North Carolina. In addition, two plants in Illinois followed shortly into the twenty first century. From a small handful of employees in the 1950s to over 1820 today, Rose Acre Farms continues to remain on the cutting edge of this ever-changing industry. Remaining the largest family-owned egg producer in the United States, continued innovation and market demand promise a bright future for our employees and customers.

Tony Wesner, CEO of Rose Acre Farms which is headquartered in Seymour, was on Capitol Hill Thursday testifying before the Senate Ag Committee about Bird Flu. He told Senators he’s fully in support of implementing the Bird Flu vaccine within the U.S. poultry industry in order to fight off the virus. “I’m not sure a vaccine is 100 percent the answer, but I think that if we go down that road and we start there, there will be people working hard and spending a lot of money to try to come up with answers,” said Wesner. View profile for Emily Metz

President & CEO at American Egg Board

America's egg farmers welcome the immediate, decisive action outlined by USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins to address Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). We are fighting an unprecedented threat with HPAI that requires the extraordinary response the Trump Administration proposed. As Secretary Brooke Rollins noted, there is no silver bullet to eradicating HPAI – it will take a comprehensive, innovative approach, and it will take time. This plan represents a critical step forward for our industry. We welcome and appreciate the prioritized focus on protecting egg-laying hens, which will help stabilize the egg supply and drive down prices. Eggs are essential to Americans, as the past 23 consecutive months of high demand and sales have shown. Easing supply shortages and record-high prices is something we all want. The Administration's five-pronged approach to combat avian influenza creates a road map to recovery for the egg industry. By focusing on innovative improvements to our already stringent biosecurity and disease prevention efforts, increasing financial assistance to farmers impacted by HPAI so they can move more swiftly toward restoring egg production, funding research into vaccines and therapeutics to protect flocks better, removing regulatory burdens on egg producers, and looking at temporary options to stabilize egg supplies, we can make real progress in addressing this unprecedented systemic disruption in our egg-production system. America's egg farmers are eager to work with Secretary Rollins and the Administration to implement this plan, and we will bring our expertise and resources to drive this work forward. We again express our sincere gratitude for this thoughtful and comprehensive strategy.
