In support of Martin Luther King's birthday on January 20—a day dedicated to encouraging Americans to participate in community service—the Rotary Club Of Chestnut Hill is conducting a Winter Clothing & Food Drive to benefit clients of Prevention Point Philadelphia. We encourage members, friends, neighbors to gather and donate warm winter clothing and supplies for a chili dinner for 200. Donations will be accepted at the Breakfast Program on Wednesday, January 8 and 15, 2025, at Center on the Hill, Widener Hall, 8855 Germantown Ave. For other drop off times, contact Maggie Stoffel at maggie.stoeffel@gmail.com Prevention Point Philadelphia serves thousands of individuals each year who are experiencing homelessness and substance abuse disorder. Eleanor C. Emlen Elementary School's holiday show is a festive annual event that involves the entire school including faculty, staff, students, parents and volunteers from the community, located in Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. Students also help decorate classroom doors in the holiday theme. Rotary Club Of Chestnut Hill volunteers regularly provide hands-on service, cleaning and beautifying the school grounds and donating books for students to take home. The Rotary Club Of Chestnut Hill is looking forward to meeting Duane Hershberger, Outreach and Resource Development, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties. Duane will speak about the vital work of his organization in the local community. Duane led 30 international Global Village trips with Habitat and other organizations to various countries: Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Argentina, El Salvador, Portugal and Poland. He is semi-retired but continues to work one day a week with Habitat of Montgomery and Delaware Counties and still leads 4-5 international work trips a year. Everyone is welcome! The Rotary Club Of Chestnut Hill presented a $2,000 check to the Eleanor C. Emlen elementary school science teacher, chris conallen (pictured). The much-needed funds will provide science-based field trips for 300 K to 5 students. The funding was made possible through donations to the Chestnut Hill Rotary Foundation and a matching grant from the Rotary District 7450 Gundaker Foundation. Emlen is one of nine Northwest Philadelphia organizations that received funding from Chestnut Hill Rotary. Emlen elementary is one of Chestnut Hill Rotary's educational partners. Members volunteer time, donate books, and provide financial assistants through grants.
