RSH Legal got some pretty cool news yesterday. Our partner Emily (Peebler) Anderson was invited to become a Fellow of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers! Membership in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers is exclusive, limited to 250 Iowa attorneys who primarily focus on trial practice. The Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers is a prestigious invitation-only organization that is dedicated to advancing excellence in trial advocacy and promoting justice. Congratulations Emily! We are very proud of you.

The Dynamic Duo - otherwise known as my RSH Legal partners Ben Long and Emily (Peebler) Anderson - just coached Regis Middle School to the 2024 Iowa Middle School State Championship. This makes 20 state championships in 40 years for mock trial teacher-coach-extraordinaire jim efting!

This weekend, I had the privilege of combining two passions—law and Scouting—at the Hawkeye Area Council, BSA’s Merit Badge University in Cedar Rapids. As an Eagle Scout, it was incredibly rewarding to teach both the Law and Citizenship in the Nation merit badge classes, sharing how legal principles shape our society and empower citizens to make a difference. RSH Legal was proud to sponsor this event at Kirkwood Community College which brought together over 300 Scouts from across Iowa for a day of learning and leadership. I was honored to present our sponsorship check to Sarah Dawson to support this important program and to hand out a special raffle prize—a Solo Stove—to Scout Leader Daniel Prentice and Troop 100. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of RSH Legal’s Kelly Roedema and our super intern Sydney Kepros, whose hard work behind the scenes made our contribution to this event a reality. Thank you for your dedication to helping the next generation of leaders. For my fellow attorneys, opportunities like this are a meaningful way to give back while using our legal expertise to inspire others. Whether it’s teaching Scouts about the importance of our legal system or mentoring young professionals, it’s a reminder of how we can connect our careers with our communities.
