About us
runZero was founded by HD Moore (creator of Metasploit) to help organizations discover and secure every asset across their IT, OT, and IoT environments — including risky unmanaged and unknown devices — so they can better manage exposures and stay compliant. On average, customers find 25% more assets with runZero than they were previously aware of. The runZero Platform doesn’t require agents, authentication, or appliances to deliver complete visibility. Novel active scanning technology is combined with passive discovery and API integrations to deliver insights across internal and external attack surfaces, as well as in-depth fingerprinting and exposure identification on every asset. Today, we have 500+ customers globally, including a number of Fortune 500 entities that use us at scale and were recently named the Customers’ Choice on Gartner® Peer Insights. What will you uncover with runZero? Find out with a free 21-day trial.

We always love hearing about people's experiences using runZero in the wild -- but this post really fired us up! 🔥 Thank you, Charles Blas, for sharing your experience and for all the great highlights below. As we mentioned in the post comments, if anyone else wants to try runZero, we have a free trial and a completely free Community Edition that is great for home environments and labs. Check it out here and tell us what you think: https://lnkd.in/gjiDducm
I don’t usually win prizes, so I was delighted to win a pocket computer last week! It was one of the vendor prizes raffled off at CruiseCon, and it happened to be preinstalled with a runZero demo license. So far, I've had a week to try it out, and I have to say I'm impressed with the architecture. It's embarrassingly easy to deploy, even at scale. It supports all the integrations I would need in an enterprise (but YMMV). It gave the results I expected (in a lab) relatively quickly and it accurately fingerprinted devices that no other scanner was able to before; clearly they spent a lot of time on profiling. One could then take all those internal indicators and correlate them with fingerprints on the Internet, showing potential backdoors caused by errant or orphaned devices. In plain terms, they’re looking for network entry points that the best adversaries/pentesters may use to bypass segmentation and detection. HD Moore and the engineering team at runZero have effectively productized an important component of Attack Surface Management (ASM), evolving it from the inside out. Coupled with a traditional vulnerability management system for metrics, some security instrumentation, deception, et voilà! I really need to rethink my career. 😬😵 I was not paid to test the product or post about it; in fact, I won it at a random drawing on the inaugural #CruiseCon2025, so I will likely have to donate the hardware to my local Defcon DC916 group. But it’s not everyday that you get a personal debrief from HD Moore on how to tweak the pass-thru ports and side-load drivers. I was honored. 🙏🙏 Also, I am not affiliated with CruiseCon, other than I attended the inaugural cruise on the Voyager of the Seas, and that's the rocket we saw from the lido deck before we got underway. Speaking of CruiseCon, I will be posting more about it; one post will not do it justice, with the sheer quality of speakers and content. Congrats to Ira Winkler and team on a raging success. But Ira, bro, I have to say I'm in Sounil's camp: you definitely married up. 👆👆👍 😅 Did you ever receive something that gave you a new perspective? (That's what made it a gift.) 🎁

🎙️ runZero Hour airs tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1pm ET! Tune in this month as Rob King and Tom Sellers welcome Brianna Cluck, researcher extraordinaire from GreyNoise Intelligence. We'll be talking: 🛠️ Network topology: Go under the hood on network topology mapping and see how to spot exposures and segmentation issues. Plus, learn about Brianna’s new research on tags with suspicious intention! ☝ Fingerprinting network devices in detail: We’ll deconstruct our updated Palo Alto probes and show you how to uncover more attributes on your network devices using creative new techniques. 🩵 MODBUS love: It’s the ICS protocol so popular it’s got a ton of proprietary, vendor-based extensions! Brianna will share recent research and tips for staying on top of the variations to keep your OT secure. 📌 runZero updates: We’ve got new queries and categorizations for you, plus the ability to age out attributes to improve fingerprinting accuracy and reprocess tasks to fine tune asset data without losing history. Our Director of Product Marketing Wes Hutcherson recently sat down with Andriani Loizidou of 4i MAG to discuss one of the biggest security threats that organizations face: unknown and unmanaged assets. We all know that you can't defend what you can't see. Read the article to learn: 🔕Which assets represent silent threats to your network security 📡 Why IoT and OT devices are a primary target for attackers ⚖️ The challenges of #DORA compliance Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eR6GWHCg

Thank you Hacker Valley Media and Ron Eddings for recognizing and sharing the stories of the talented people we get to work alongside in our industry. We're honored to have our CEO and founder HD Moore highlighted as your cybersecurity professional of the month. Thanks for sharing his fascinating journey in cybersecurity (and for the shout out to his awesome home automation projects⚡)! #FollowFriday
Long before cybersecurity was an industry, HD Moore, was piecing together computers from discarded parts, unknowingly assembling the foundation for a gamechanging career. Some people use cybersecurity tools, others build them, but HD Moore redefined the game. HD immersed himself in BBS and IRC communities before getting recruited by CSC to work on US Air Force projects. But his true impact? Building the foundation for modern offensive security. 🔥Metasploit: The project that changed everything. Metasploit didn’t just make penetration testing accessible, it legitimized exploit development and helped thousands break into security careers. 🔥Founder & Innovator: From founding a pentesting/MSP firm to leading runZero his work continues to set new standards in security and exposure management. 🔥Offensive Security Pioneer: By pushing the boundaries of legal exploit development and disclosure, he’s helped offensive security gain recognition as a respected career path. Beyond cyber, you’ll find HD deep in CRPGs or engineering wild home automation projects, including a high-tech package delivery dumpster. 🤯 His best piece of advice? “Nobody knows anything.” In a field that evolves so rapidly, expertise is fleeting. The real key is to have strong opinions, take action, and stop waiting for permission. This #FollowFriday isn’t just a recommendation, it’s a necessity! HD is a must-know name in cybersecurity. #Cybersecurity #Infosec #Pentesting
