A Family of Schools for all Families

About us

Located deep in the heart of the Alamo City for more than 100 years, San Antonio ISD is Bexar County’s third-largest school district, serving more than 45,000 students. Because SAISD recognizes that education is not a "one size fits all" package, we offer more choices than any other Bexar County-area school district for students to pursue special interests and career goals, as well as learning environments that best meet their individual needs. We offer a wide variety of programs, including dual-language and bilingual, career exploration and college-preparation. Along with traditional school models, we also offer academies comprising non-traditional grade ranges such as PK-8. Non-boundary choices include 13 magnet programs and 20 specialized schools with diverse areas of focus and innovative methods of instruction. Unique to SAISD are the city’s only public Montessori school, only public all-girls and all-boys schools, only 100 percent dual-language school, and the only District to offer the renowned international baccalaureate program at the elementary, middle and high school levels. SAISD employees enjoy opportunities in a wide variety of settings. We offer competitive salaries, low-cost health benefits and a dual pension plan - Social Security and TRS (Teacher Retirement System of Texas). Come join us at SAISD where we are changing lives one student at a time.

Highlands High School Cuts the Ribbon on New Athletics Facility Last week was an exciting time to be a mighty fighting owl! Members of the project team from Satterfield & Pontikes Construction (S&P) and architect Perkins&Will proudly joined student athletes, coaches and San Antonio ISD board members at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the campus’s new athletics facility. The festivities began with a student-led pep rally, where the community came together to celebrate this significant milestone for the athletics department. “Today we are opening the doors to dreams, determination and the spirit of teamwork,” remarked Highlands wresting coach, Krystal Contreras. The project was funded by a 2002 bond that voters passed to bring many of the district’s facilities up to modern standards. This project includes a 1,000-seat competition gym, replacing the original 1958 gym, along with two new weight rooms, a practice gym, training room and a wrestling mat room. Existing coaches' offices and locker rooms received a complete renovation, and upgrades like a new HVAC system, rerouted bus loop, and a band practice pad were installed. Highland's head women's basketball coach, Adrianna Wiatrek, expressed her gratitude — "These kids deserve these facilities so much...we cannot express enough to you the support that you gave to give us these facilities."  With the opening of the new athletic facilities, S&P begins work on the demolition of the existing gym. Once demolition is complete, a new walkway will be constructed to provide a safe route for students between the main building and the athletic facilities. Congratulations SAISD and Highlands High School on this remarkable milestone!

  • Through #Bond2020, SAISD students are getting a closer look at the architecture and construction industries. On Dec. 17, a group of Highland Hills Elementary students and parents gathered for a presentation by project architect Huckabee, followed by age-appropriate activities that introduced them to architectural terms and concepts while giving them the opportunity to provide input about the design of major renovations at the campus. In addition to offering design suggestions, students searched for design terms in a word puzzle and completed a coloring sheet using colors they would use in their school design. The students were also given a sheet with a floor plan they can cut out and re-arrange over the winter break to help them understand the planning of spaces within a school. #highlandhillses #architecture #huckabee

  • Highlands High School knows how to celebrate! Thanks to all the students, staff, parents and community members who turned out earlier this month to mark completion of the school's new competition gym and athletic support spaces with a pep rally and ribbon ceremony, followed by an Open House and "tailgate." Other improvements include a new secondary gym, girls’ and boys’ locker rooms, two new weight rooms, a training room, a mat room, seminar rooms and coaches’ offices. The remainder of the work is expected to wrap up in spring 2025.    #SAISD #highlandshs #majorrenovations #bondprojects #upgrades #campusupgrades #athletics

  • Nearly 200 high school students from 13 San Antonio ISD high schools have earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Program this fall. The program celebrates the hard work of thousands of high school students nationwide to help them showcase their strong academic performance on college and scholarship applications. High-achieving students from all 50 states and U.S. territories were eligible for the five programs: National African American Recognition Program, National Hispanic Recognition Program, National Indigenous Recognition Program, National Rural and Small-Town Recognition Program, and for the first time, the National First-Generation Recognition Program.  “It feels good because I’ve gone through this four-year journey of personal growth and I’m finally being recognized for something that felt pretty amazing to me,” said Mike De La Cruz, a Jefferson High School senior who received the National First-Generation Recognition Award and National Hispanic Recognition Award. #saisd #saisdproud #saisdfamilia #students #collegeboard #collegebound #highschool
