About us

San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum is a place of great beauty that is home to one of our country’s most diverse and significant botanical collections. Located within Golden Gate Park, the Garden offers 55 acres showcasing nearly 8,000 different kinds of plants. The mission of San Francisco Botanical Garden is to connect people to plants, the planet, and each other. As a public/private partnership between a community-based nonprofit organization and the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, and a beloved San Francisco institution, we are committed to transparency, cultural diversity, inclusion, and environmentally responsible practices. We are proud to be a public garden, accessible to all and grateful to the funders who help sustain us.

  • The Gardens are here for all of us, at all times. Through all emotions, these beautiful places soothe us, offer comfort, and spark curiosity. Come take a walk in the Gardens, notice something you’ve never seen before, and take good care of yourself. Here are a few ways you can enjoy the Gardens this weekend: 🌈 Bundle up and spread out a blanket on the lawn in front of the Conservatory of Flowers for a fun evening of free music and psychedelic light art starting 30 minutes after sunset every night. The Winter Light Show begins tonight! 🪴 Bring a piece of the Gardens home with you from the Botanical Garden's Monthly Plant Sale this Saturday & Sunday. We will be featuring plants from around the world that thrive in the Bay Area’s cool foggy weather such as begonias, fuchsias, bromeliads, air plants, and more. 🍵 Meditate with cup of tea at the Japanese Tea Garden and enjoy the fall colors appearing on cherry trees and ginkgo trees as you explore the new path and Pagoda Plaza. 🎟️ Remember — Veterans, SF residents, and Museums for All participants receive FREE admission to all three gardens every day of the year. Plus, next Tuesday will be Free Day for everybody at @sfbotanicalgarden. Let us all continue being part of a bright future for people, plants, and the planet. 🌎 See you in the Gardens 💚 #EverybodysGardens Learn more at gggp.org

Over the weekend, the Gardens of Golden Gate Park collaborated with Litquake, San Francisco's Literary Festival and Villa Albertine San Francisco to host renowned perfumer Jean Claude Ellena, the creator for Hermes perfumes, in the Garden of Fragrance at San Francisco Botanical Garden over the weekend. Participants were delighted to learn from Ellena and other French perfume houses. They explored how scents can help build deep sensory connections with nature. tap in to personal memories, and more. Thank to our partners at LitQuake and Villa Albertine and everyone from the community for making this such a special event. Looking forward to visiting the Gardens again soon?
