  • During Tuesday's meeting, the Sarasota County Commission warmly bid farewell to Commission Chair Mike Moran and Commissioner Neal Rainford for their dedication and service to Sarasota County. Commission Chair Moran served eight years on the Sarasota County Commission after being elected in 2016 and then re-elected to serve in 2020. He served as the Vice Chair in 2019 and 2023, as Chair in 2020, and again this year. As a tireless advocate for our community, especially our senior members, Commission Chair Moran recognized that protecting Sarasota’s gorgeous environmental landscape and developing the business community requires a healthy balance that is critical for the community's long-term success. A staunch advocate for fiscal responsibility, during his terms, Sarasota County has maintained one of the lowest millage rates in the state. Commissioner Rainford was appointed by our Governor to fill the District 3 seat that became vacant after the passing of long-time community leader, the late Commissioner Nancy Detert in June 2023. During his tenure, Commissioner Rainford played a pivotal role in advancing water infrastructure and community safety projects, continuing his long-standing dedication to public service. Thank you, Commission Chair Moran and Commissioner Rainford! Your efforts have shaped Sarasota County for the better. #SRQCounty
