Instead of constructing a new facility, Sasaki designed an expansion to the existing Boston College Conte Forum with the addition of the Hoag Basketball Pavilion. 🏀 This clever renovation opens up the walls and transforms the team experience by creating transparency for student athletes and the greater campus. Boston College Hoag Pavilion has been nominated for the ArchDaily 2025 Building of the Year Awards in the Sports Architecture category. Cast your vote today! https://ow.ly/xTyU50UY7s2

In America’s heartland, cities and towns are paving the way for community-driven change. Sasaki has been working with municipalities to reframe relationships to waterfronts, business parks, downtowns, and beyond. 📍Evansville, Indiana Evansville is a destination for commerce, entertainment, and events for the tri-state region of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Sasaki released the Ohio River Vision and Strategic Plan in 2024, focused on revitalizing the relationship between Evansville and the Ohio River. The plan's centerpiece, Great Bend Park, will become a new destination for dining, recreation, and outdoor concerts while serving as flood protection infrastructure. Image 1: Rendering of Great Bend Park 📍Dublin, Ohio The City of Dublin selected Sasaki to transform a 210-acre business park into an active, resilient community nexus. The Metro Center offers the opportunity to create new physical, social, and environmental connections to and beyond its edges. The plan integrates housing, retail, dining, office, and open green spaces, establishing a new identity for this neighborhood. Image 2: Rendering of Metro Center 📍Columbus, Indiana Last September, Sasaki was selected to lead the Columbus Downtown 2030 Plan. A haven for modernist architecture and public art, Columbus has a history of prioritizing thoughtful design interventions. The Downtown 2030 Plan will create an aspirational vision for the city that preserves Columbus’s unique and beloved character, charting a course for actionable change that can be achieved in the next 5-10 years. Image 3: Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans 📍Akron, Ohio Sasaki is leading the transformation of Akron's Innerbelt, a mile-long decommissioned highway that created lasting economic and social challenges for surrounding neighborhoods, severing vital community connections and devaluing properties. The City of Akron recently received a federal grant to repurpose this infrastructure and help create a more equitable, resilient, and connected future for Akronites. As a member of the Los Angeles community, and having opened the newest Sasaki studio here last year, we are heartbroken by the devastation of the past week. Our team is safe and in close contact as we further assess and monitor the winds and ongoing containment efforts. Watching the destruction unfold and witnessing clients and neighbors lose their homes has been deeply painful. Amidst this tragedy, we’ve also seen extraordinary resilience — communities rallying together, offering shelter, support, and hope. Like many, we have watched in awe of the efforts made by first responders and community members who have come together selflessly to avoid further loss. At Sasaki, we believe that design has a critical role to play in helping cities like Los Angeles adapt to the challenges of climate change, including the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires. To that end, we are committed to working with our partners to envision and implement solutions that help mitigate risks and build safer, stronger communities. Over the weekend, hundreds of L.A.-area architects, engineers, and contractors have added their names to a crowdsourced list of building professionals who are eager to help replace what’s been lost. I’ve added Sasaki to this list; interested professionals can submit their names here: https://lnkd.in/e882UEb8. In addition to professional services, donations can be made to the California Fire Foundation and Direct Relief. We want to extend our heartfelt support to those impacted and will continue to do what we can to contribute to the ongoing efforts that remain ahead of us all. As we continue to find ways to support our city, we are committed to helping communities rebuild and adapt to these new realities. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—we want to hear from you. Los Angeles welcomes everyone; it’s my home, and it’s a place where we dream up new futures. That creativity and vision is needed again as we come together to recover and to rebuild. Sasaki

The new year will bring a renewed Copley Square in downtown Boston! 🌳⛲ As featured in the Boston Globe, the northeast triangle of the historic park is now open, which will soon be followed by the section across from the Boston Public Library. The square will fully reopen to the public later this year. Sasaki has been working with the City of Boston to revitalize this city landmark to better support daily use and the many public events hosted throughout the year. From yearly Boston Marathon celebrations to weekly farmers’ markets, the new Copley Square will be more comfortable and functional, featuring ample shade and seating options and a renovated fountain. Sasaki is collaborating with the City of Santa Monica and its community members to reimagine the Santa Monica Airport. The Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project (SMACP) aims to establish a preferred scenario, centered on a sustainable “Great Park,” following the airport's anticipated closure after the end of 2028. Converting the airport will not only enhance the public realm for people, but also benefit local flora and fauna—the renewed site will serve as an ecological stepping stone for local species, allowing them to adapt to new habitats as the climate changes. The team created a comprehensive, multi-layered site analysis, which was informed by in-person and online public engagement in Phases 1 & 2. By studying the site's historical context, existing conditions, and its connection to the urban and natural environment, the team equipped the community with the tools needed to envision the possibilities. This analysis also establishes a foundation for the City's sustainability initiatives, including meeting goals for onsite water treatment and material reuse to minimize embodied carbon. The feedback gathered through this engagement process will inform three possible scenarios that will be unveiled this spring in Phase 3.
