Let's create space for water

About us

By harnessing the power of global geographical digitisation and using the latest advances in big data processing technology, we build innovative digital tools that enable our users to create better, more liveable and sustainable environments where there is space for water. A revolution in sensor and mapping technology has enabled governments around the world to create and maintain nationwide 3-dimensional maps in high resolution. As a result, the entire surface of the Earth is now being mapped in detail. We are collecting this data and building a platform to unlock its potential. Our technology is based on decades of basic and applied research in algorithms for processing big geographic data at leading universities in both Europe and the USA. Our technology team consists of world leading algorithm experts that use their skills to turn high resolution geographic data into easy-to-use tools for engineers, urban planners, architects and government administrators.

  • Scalgo Land Cover map now in France! 🏡🌳 France is next in our steady roll-out of nationwide land cover maps. To create these maps we use Artificial intelligence (AI). "Our AI model is very powerful because it keeps learning and getting better every time we apply it," Jonas Tranberg, data scientist at Scalgo, says. "And the initial results we got for France, using a model trained on the Nordic countries and Germany, were already very accurate. The new thing we trained the model to identify is dry vegetation, since vegetation in the south of France dries out in summer to a degree that is uncommon in northern Europe." The AI model creates four land cover classes: impervious areas, bare soil (i.e., sand and gravel), shallow vegetation and dense vegetation. This output is combined with auxiliary data from the IGN (Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière). There are two land cover groups in the map, the natural and the artificial. 6 natural land cover classes: 🌱 Shallow vegetation 🌲 Dense vegetation 🌾 Field 🏜 Bare land 🪨 Bare rock 💧 Water 5 artificial land cover classes: 🛣 Paved road 🧱 Paved areas ⏳ Unpaved road 🏠 Buildings 🛤 Railway Read more about land cover mapping in the blog: https://lnkd.in/dC9xzwDC

  • Where does the water go?💧 Spill points now spill the beans!🫘 Surface water naturally accumulates in depressions in the terrain. When a depression overflows, water leaves it through a spill point which is the lowest elevation point along the boundary of the depression. With the new spill points in Scalgo Live, you'll always know where surface water will flow next. Spill points are excellent input when exploring terrain and surface water interactions. They provide critical insights into flow patterns, helping to identify optimal solutions for flood mitigation, wetland creation, and other surface water challenges. Learn more about the new spill points in the blog: https://lnkd.in/d5K_SBdU

  • Protecting and restoring farmland 🌱 Devon Wildlife Trust's David Thomas shares his insights on creating a wetlands area on Farrantshayes farm in Devon County, UK. The result is an area that improves water quality and slows down water flow, ultimately restoring the area's habitat as well as introducing natural flood management. Discover how David used Scalgo Live to develop a design that was inspired by beaver dams and used 'ground truthing' in the early stages of the process.
