Partnerships between universities and community colleges are emerging to address student housing needs and support the ambitions of transfer students. SCB’s design for the North District Phase 2 Complex, a collaboration between the University of California, Riverside, and Riverside City College, provides housing for 1,568 students and reserves half of the new spaces for students from each institution, making it possible to transfer without changing residences. Habitat for Humanity builds safe and affordable houses in communities worldwide. The organization provides a pathway to homeownership through its Affordable Homeownership Program for women who would otherwise not qualify for traditional home mortgage loans. SCB recently participated in our fourth Women Build event in Chicago, working together to raise funds and lift hammers to support the program. We are grateful to all who contributed to our teams - Women Build 2024 surpassed last year's fundraising goal and advanced construction on four houses and four garages. #ChiWomenBuild Habitat for Humanity Chicago

The new Terminal 5 Parking Garage at Chicago O'Hare International Airport has officially opened to the public. We celebrated this significant accomplishment at the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation Jamie Rhee, the larger Chicago Department of Aviation team, and our project partners. SCB was the Design Architect and Architect of Record for the project, working in collaboration with STL Architects as the Associate Architect. The garage completion marks a pivotal advancement to O'Hare's infrastructure by introducing a monumental new entry point to one of the world's busiest airports and doubling the number of parking spaces adjacent to Terminal 5. This work builds on our commitment to elevating the passenger experience and meeting the strategic needs of world-class airports. "We are thrilled to realize this important next step in the transformative O'Hare 21 program," says SCB Design Principal Martin Wolf, FAIA. "This work is the result of a talented, diverse team who worked hand-in-hand with the City of Chicago to meet the ambitious goals set by the City and the Airlines at the beginning of this project." By employing a concept of "caves and commons," our team delivered a range of options to suit the needs of a multi-faceted design studio, ranging from quiet, technology-free spaces that emphasize connection to open, state-of-the-art collaboration areas that put our process on display. When designing our new office, the SCB team sought to honor the architect’s vision for the AMA Plaza building while adding to its story with a contextual, state-of-the-art design studio. Featuring thoughtful details and impactful spaces that demonstrate a commitment to our craft, the new SCB Headquarters includes a 3D model wall highlighting SCB’s impact on the city’s skyline, timeless artisan finishes like plaster walls and terrazzo flooring, classic furniture pieces, and unparalleled views of downtown Chicago and the riverfront. We recently joined our client Carmel Partners in hosting Girls Inc. of Alameda County for a tour of Atlas in Oakland, California. The organization partners with over 60 Bay Area schools and works to introduce girls to varied and exciting career paths. It was inspiring to take them through the building and share our insights on what architecture and design careers have to offer. 

Congratulations to Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. and Ward Village on the Grand Opening of Victoria Place! Victoria Place is a 750,000-square-foot, 40-story residential tower in Honolulu’s Ward Village and opens to residents this month. Our design of Victoria Place fully embraces the environment through the seamless integration with the outdoors, maximizing views of the South Shore and Diamond Head.
