Yesterday, South Carolina’s economic development community celebrated Maceo Nance — and his incredible 50 years of service! An Orangeburg native, Nance joined the State Development Board, an early precursor to S.C. Commerce, in 1974. He would go on to serve under several directors and secretaries, and hold multiple positions throughout the agency. Under his leadership, the South Carolina Rural Summit — now in its 35th year — was created to celebrate rural communities and foster their growth through collaboration and creative solutions. Nance's legacy is his passion for advancing rural communities, his unwavering dedication to the state, and the profound impact he made on the lives and careers of many others.

The Coordinating Council for Workforce Development (CCWD), a partnership between a vast range of state and local organizations, is excited to launch the pilot of FindYourFuture.sc.gov. This virtual platform was created to connect South Carolinians with information that will guide them on their education and job journey, as well as provide employers, educators, and workforce development partners across the state with quick links to the breadth of resources available to them. Yesterday, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Ashely Teasdel was honored with an official resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives to commemorate her recognition as the 2024 Charleston Women in International Trade (CWIT) Woman of the Year. Ashely’s leadership and contribution to her profession have supported the advancement of South Carolina’s international trade, global partnerships and overall economic competitiveness. S.C. Commerce is proud to celebrate Ashely and her unwavering commitment to the state of South Carolina every day!
