From old to new--tech, that is! Started the evening in SF at Sofar Ocean for the Schmidt Marine Technology Partners where I saw a few of my SF Blue Tech members. Then it was off to the Spaulding Wooden Boat Center holiday open house in Sausalito. The cool thing about these 'at opposite ends of the spectrum' sets of people is genuine care and concern for preserving and restoring. In October, NOAA Fisheries announced funding totaling $95 million to support new fish passage projects as part of the Biden administration's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The projects will help protect and restore migrating fish and their habitats, and the communities that depend on them. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCGMbN8y

👓 The fall issue of Bay Nature magazine features Schmidt Marine grantee Kakani Katija and her #FathomNet and #FathomVerse projects! Take a read: https://lnkd.in/gdFpDKTp 🐚 The article describes how researchers at MBARI are collecting and analyzing an ever-growing amount of ROV footage from the deep sea in an attempt to ID life and geological features. But the sheer amount of incoming footage is growing faster than they can process it. 💻 That's why Katija compiled an archive of almost 100,000 processed images and is training machine learning tools to do the identification.
