Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy reposted this
New York has the chance to be a trailblazer in fighting child poverty. Nearly 1 in 5 children in New York struggle with food insecurity, which is inextricably linked to poverty; the rate is even higher for children of color. I urge Governor Hochul to accept the recommendations from the Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council, which include increasing the maximum benefit of the state’s Child Tax Credit and expanding affordable housing subsidies and public assistance programs, like SNAP benefits or food stamps, for low-income families. https://lnkd.in/gu4hR5R2

What an empowering day we had yesterday: Hundreds of parents, youth, legislators, health care providers, educators, faith leaders, advocates, and others gathered outside the NYS Capitol to raise their voices together and say: "We Believe New York Can - and must! - End Child Poverty. Now." New York’s child poverty rate is among the highest in the nation at over 18%. In some areas of the the state, that number is much higher. The existence of child poverty in one of the richest states in the nation is unacceptable -that our rates remain so high is a moral failing that the state has committed to correcting. And this group stood up to say: Now is the time. The rally followed a meeting of the NYS Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council. THANK YOU to everyone who traveled to Albany to be part of this event. Special thanks to Assemblymember Davila and Assemblymember Rosenthal.

The political climate is always shifting: locally, statewide, and nationally. But Schuyler Center's mission remains steadfast: to create a New York State with strong families, thriving children, and vibrant communities. Together with our partners, we will continue to fight for systemic change and public policies that will uplift generations of New Yorkers: from strong child tax credits to accessible child care, from child welfare system reforms to robust health coverage for mothers and babies. These are investments that benefit every one of us. We've been in this fight for over 150 years, and we're as committed as ever. Thank you for being there with us. https://lnkd.in/gRUWvWaA
