Melissa Harlan was on a trip to London, enjoying one of many afternoon teas, when inspiration struck. Crafting a community one beer at a time! In 2016, Figurehead Brewing was launched by three home brewers with a mission to build connections and enrich lives through quality beer. Since the early stages of planning, Figurehead Brewing has relied on SCORE’s mentorship. "The great thing about SCORE as a nonprofit is that they act as a non-advocate review for us," explained co-founder Bob Monroe. "We purchase services from accountants, lawyers and bookkeepers, but it’s really great to have somebody you can reference and ask questions to, knowing they’re giving unbiased opinions and facts that will help your business." With the support of their SCORE mentor, Figurehead Brewing established solid financial systems, transitioned to S-Corp status and took advantage of programs like the PPP loan and Employee Retention Credit.
