  • Since first connecting with SDHF in 2011, Kwofi Reed, President & CEO of San Diego Habitat for Humanity, has served on the board of directors and several committees, including policy, finance, and fundraising. He initially joined to support business development, but he quickly found himself drawn to the Federation's genuine commitment to advocacy, talent building, and industry growth. “I was intrigued to stay because of the organization's effective focus on policy and the shared mission to create a more inclusive housing landscape,” he says. Kwofi’s most rewarding experiences with SDHF have come from its educational institutes for young professionals. “These programs are incredibly inspiring. They not only nurture the next generation of housing leaders but also spread vital knowledge to professionals in other fields, including elected officials and staff,” he explains. This commitment to education and mentorship is a testament to the Federation’s mission to foster a thriving community of advocates for affordable housing. Moreover, Kwofi has been particularly inspired by SDHF’s leadership in advocating for a permanent source of financing for affordable housing in the region. “This ongoing effort is critical for our community’s future,” he emphasizes. Kwofi understands that sustainable funding is essential to addressing the urgent housing needs in San Diego, and he believes that SDHF is well-positioned to lead this charge. READ KWOFI'S STORY: https://lnkd.in/gXt7uXZ7 As we reflect on the past year, we are reminded of remarkable contributions made by individuals like Kwofi, whose dedication to affordable housing resonates through every project and initiative. • In 2013, Joyce Roberts found purpose with the San Diego Housing Federation (SDHF) when she first learned about the organization through the Resident Popular Educators (RPE) program, now known as Residents United Network (RUN). “It was there that I discovered my voice, the power of advocacy, and the ability to be part of something bigger—a community committed to change,” she reflects. Her involvement with SDHF has been profound and multifaceted. Joyce has participated in numerous conferences, training programs, and events that have enriched her understanding of the housing sector. As a board member of Housing California and an advocate with Residents United Network, she has played an instrumental role in shaping policies that affect countless lives. Her lived experiences have allowed her to advocate authentically for those who find themselves in similar circumstances, making her insights invaluable. Joyce has been honored with two Ruby Awards, reflecting her dedication and the positive impact she has made in her community. She recalls one of her most memorable moments with SDHF being recognized for her contributions. “It was a shock to me,” she humbly states, “to be acknowledged for my efforts.” This recognition not only validated her work but also reinforced her belief that every voice matters in the fight for housing justice. • At the heart of the San Diego Housing Federation's mission are the incredible people whose lives are transformed by access to housing, education, and support. One of those stories belongs to Abraham Abrams, a property manager at Greenbrier Village with National Community Renaissance. Born in Guadalajara and raised in San Diego, Abraham’s journey to his current role is a powerful testament to the resilience and sense of community that SDHF fosters. “It’s life-changing. It changed my life,” Abraham says. “I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for the support and education I received through SDHF.” Through the AHM Program, Abraham found his calling in property management. He quickly rose through the ranks, from a leasing agent to property manager, and is now responsible for ensuring that the residents of Greenbrier Village feel supported and at home. He even played a crucial role in leasing up the Oceanside property, taking it from 0% to 100% occupancy in just a few months. “This isn’t just a job for me; it’s my passion,” he explains. “I wasn’t using my full potential before, and now I feel like I’m making a difference every single day.” Read Abraham's full story: https://lnkd.in/gWYcxnTu The San Diego Housing Federation has been with Abraham every step of the way, providing mentorship, education, and opportunities for growth. “I feel at home, safe, and excited to come to work every day,” he says. “The support I’ve received from SDHF has allowed me to create that same sense of belonging for others.” Abraham's journey is just one example of the life-changing impact the San Diego Housing Federation has on people’s lives. Through programs like the AHM Academy, SDHF is not only helping individuals like Abraham reach their full potential, but also creating thriving, inclusive communities across San Diego. With you all the way. That’s the promise of the San Diego Housing Federation. And as we look ahead, we know there are more people like Abraham—driven, passionate, and ready to make a difference—who need our support. Your gift makes that possible. By contributing to our year-end campaign, “With You All the Way,” you’re helping us provide essential resources, foster career development, and build stronger communities. Your support ensures that individuals like Abraham can continue to find their calling and create lasting change in the lives of countless San Diegans.
