Today, we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day dedicated to honor the profound contributions of a man who championed justice, equality, and peace. Beyond his work in civil rights, Dr. King was a fierce advocate for addressing poverty and economic inequality, understanding that true freedom and equality cannot exist without the elimination of these injustices. Ending hunger in southwestern Wisconsin means we will support our neighbors with food and resources today, but we must also help change the systems that cause hunger so that our neighbors can thrive tomorrow.

This past fall and winter, we had the incredible opportunity to partner with the Wisconsin School of Business and the talented students of MKT 310: Intro to Marketing Research. In collaboration with Second Harvest, the class conducted valuable quantitative research to gain insights into the next generation of charitable givers in southern Wisconsin. We were truly impressed by the students' curiosity, analytical skills, and creativity. Their research will play a key role in shaping Second Harvest’s future. A huge thank you to the students, and On, Wisconsin! 👐❤️ University of Wisconsin-Madison

Exciting news! State Superintendent, Dr. Underly, has called for universal free meals as part of Department of Public Instruction’s 2025-27 Biennial Budget. The proposal would fund the School Breakfast Program made available for all public, charter, and residential schools, and residential childcare centers. It would strengthen local food systems connecting school districts with fresh produce from local farms, and fully fund the School Day Milk Program ensuring students have access to milk while at school. “When we make sure all our kids are properly nourished, we are nurturing the leaders of tomorrow,” said Dr. Underly.
