🌍 Sedimentologika Vol. 2 Issue 2 is now complete! You can find out more about our latest Open Access articles here: https://lnkd.in/eXrHgtQn Thanks to all the people who contributed to this issue!
Sedimentologika is a community-driven Diamond Open Access (DOA) peer-reviewed scientific journal about sedimentology with no APC/free to publish and free to access for all. The journal aims to create a place where people can publish their research and access scientific studies on all types of sedimentary processes, methods, deposits, and environments, across all spatial and temporal scales, on Earth or any other planetary body, for free. The published material will be free to share (i.e., no embargo period) since the authors retain the copyright. Sedimentologika is driven by the community for the community and is part of a broader DOA movement in geosciences. Sedimentologika aspires to emancipate from the financial barriers associated with private publishing houses to provide direct and equal access to science to all citizens, scientists, and institutions all over the globe. This journal will be defined by Open Science principles to promote ethical dissemination of science and knowledge, following high equality, diversity, and inclusion standards.

great initiative!! find us there :)
Thanks to Thomas Henkel (Université de Fribourg) and SOAP2, we finally turned our PLATO list of Swiss Diamond Open Access journals into a searchable database, striving to make community-led journals more findable and visible. https://lnkd.in/dDyBAxcH A huge "thank you" goes to Victoria G. D. Landau for her support! #diamondoa #journals #scholar-led #Switzerland #plato #SOAP2
🚨New Paper🚨 Amarante et al. utilize cored wells, petrographic thin sections, and geophysical logs from an Albian succession in the Campos Basin to characterize hybrid carbonate-siliciclastic ramp deposits and build a depositional model for understanding sedimentary processes and reservoir heterogeneity in this unique setting. Welcome #OPal to the Diamond Open Access geosciences family! 🦕🦖
✨ Super excited to announce that Open Palaeontology (OPal) is now live as a new Diamond Open Access journal dedicated to palaeontological research! 🦐 Alongside traditional formats, we warmly welcome submissions such as hypothetical studies, preregistered protocols, negative results, and multimedia articles. 🦕 With your support, OPal aims to become a dynamic platform for both early-career and established researchers to share impactful, responsibly conducted work. 🚨New Paper🚨 Payton et al. present the value and limitations of x-ray micro computed tomography as a new tool for micro-scale investigations of siliciclastic deposits such as fluid-bearing reservoirs. Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g9brRddv
💎💎 Help us shape the future of the Diamond Open Access community by filling out UNESCO's "Consultation on a Global Diamond Open Access Framework" survey: https://lnkd.in/etsMWd7H
🚨 New Paper 🚨 Kimitsuki et al. investigate modern trace makers in a high latitude lake setting to further develop ichnological models and understand the influence of environmental factors on trace assemblages. Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gQ_SmKDD

Thank you, Sedimentologika, for sharing our work. I truly believe #OpenScience Diamond Access is the future. This project started as a way to improve my own petrographic workflows, with the hope it would also benefit fellow geoscientists. Now, with the growing interest in these kinds of applications, I’m motivated to put more effort into developing more refined, easy-to-use versions of these tools. Always open to contributions, ideas, and questions!
🚨 New Paper 🚨 Azzam et al. explore machine learning techniques for automated petrographic analyses and provide 2 novel open source tools (GrainSight and PetroSeg) for grain detection, grain characterization, and porosity calculations. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gQK_GWCY
