We're building the health workforce of the future to transform health systems and save lives.

About us

Seed believes in a future in which every country has a robust health workforce that is able to meet the health needs of its population. Good health is fundamental to not only survive, but to thrive. When people have access to quality health care, it is not just their health that improves; they are better able to contribute to stronger economies, greater personal and national security, and sustained prosperity. Seed educates a rising generation of health professionals and health educators, bolstering the pipeline of healthcare providers who have local knowledge and deep ties to the region. By teaching local health professionals, entire communities and countries can benefit from the “ripple effect” created when more skilled clinicians are better prepared to care for the population and serve as educators themselves for and alongside their local peers. These skilled professionals also become leaders in their health system, advocating for better health in a positive feedback loop. Seed is uniquely focused on placing skilled and qualified Educators at partner institutions for a minimum of one academic year as well as supporting educators and partner institutions through a diverse and complementary package of services aimed at advancing health professional education in the classroom and clinical setting. The net result is better care and better health for the population.

The School of Midwifery in Kenema, Sierra Leone, is officially open! This is the fourth midwifery school in the country and a significant milestone as Sierra Leone continues its efforts to improve maternal care and reduce maternal mortality. Maternal mortality in the country has declined from 1,682 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2010 to 443 per 100,000 live births in 2023. At Seed Global Health, we have been partnering with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health since 2019 to advance midwifery education and practice, with existing partnerships with the School of Midwifery Bo and the School of Midwifery Makeni. Sierra Leone has a goal of graduating 3,000 midwives by 2030, and at the request of the government, Seed is partnering to educate and train 1,100 midwives (37 percent of the total goal).  A huge thanks to Mustapha Sonnie, our country director, and our incredible team in Sierra Leone, as they continue to work tirelessly alongside our partners to strengthen education and training for the health workforce. • Sierra Leone’s fourth School of Midwifery is officially open 👏 At an event today His Excellency, Dr. Julius Maada Wonie Bio, President of Sierra Leone, cut the ribbon to commission the School of Midwifery, Kenema. The school will equip existing midwives with the skills necessary to deliver high quality maternal and newborn care and increase the overall number of qualified midwives. Mustapha Sonnie, our Sierra Leone country director, and Marian Bangura, our program manager, attended the official opening as we supported the development of the school by designing the curriculum and providing skilled faculty to deliver comprehensive classroom and bedside training. Since 2019, we have been working with the Ministry of Health to advance midwifery education and practice. In continued partnership, we are aiming to educate and train 1,100 midwives, 37 percent of the government's overall goal of graduating 3,000 midwives by 2030. https://lnkd.in/eMu6jQ3X Austin Demby Dr. Jalikatu Mustapha #Midwives #SierraLeone #HealthWorkforce #HealthWorkersSaveLives #Healthcare

Climate change is not just an environmental challenge, it is a human health and security challenge. Extreme weather events, rising temperatures, shifting disease patterns, and subsequent migration are all creating unprecedented threats to public health, pandemic risks, economic stability, and national security.   It was an honor to address the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense and I share my gratitude to them for the work they do in preparing the U.S. against biological threats.  My recommendations to the Commission on tackling the very real and growing threats from climate change on our health and security include:  • Invest in resilient health systems including, ensuring a well trained, well distributed health workforce.  • Mobilize sustainable financing for health including leveraging innovative mechanisms such as health bonds, debt swaps, and special drawing rights to ensure sustainable, efficient resource allocation. • Build political consensus on action at the local and state level. With increased polarization within our societies we need to coalesce around our shared values at a local level to better explain and understand the health benefits of climate action. Benefits include economic gain, increased productivity, decreased inequity, and more political stability. • At the crux of our safety is to stay laser focused on and accelerate a just transition and mitigation from fossil fuels. Our greatest defense is preventing the damage in the first place.           The mission of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense is critical right now as we face a convergence of challenges that are threatening our health, our security and our overall resilience.  We must place health at the heart of our response to climate change to safeguard lives, strengthen economies, and build a safer, more equitable future.  Health is our defense. No health workers, means no access to care.    On #UHCDay we cannot forget that we need a continue to build a strong, well-trained and well-resourced health workforce to be able to increase access to care. UHC2030 will not be possible without them.   Governments and stakeholders must invest in health workers to achieve #HealthForAll.   At Seed Global Health our Strategic Plan is mapped to 2030. In support of our partners’ priorities to contribute to achieving universal health coverage as we build the health workforce of the future to save lives. #UHCDay2024 #UHC2030 #HealthWorkforce #HealthWorkersSaveLives #UniversalHealthCoverageDay

  • Today, on Universal Health Coverage Day, we are reminded of the critical role health workers play in making UHC a global reality by 2030.   Everyone should have access to quality healthcare. However, achieving this will be impossible without training more skilled health workers, who are essential for providing care.   By 2030, there will also be a shortfall of 10 million health workers globally, with sub-Saharan Africa most affected.   In Malawi, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), we are training family medicine doctors to improve access to care.   We are training two family medicine doctors for each of the 28 district hospitals across the country. This initiative ensures skilled health workers are available in primary care settings to improve access, provide quality care, and save lives.   #UHCDay #UHCDay2024 #UHC2030 #HealthWorkforce #HealthForAll #HealthWorkersSaveLives #UniversalHealthCoverageDay

Health workers across all cadres are the backbone of resilient health systems, providing critical care, saving lives, and preventing the spread of emerging health threats around the globe. In the final days of the 118th Congress, we are calling for action to invest in health workers worldwide. https://lnkd.in/eXvYeqju

The challenges we face, here in the US and globally, from a warming planet are not political but existential. As one of the worlds biggest polluters the US has a fundamental responsibility to act, and must: 1. Make health a core issues when considering the effects of climate change. No longer can it be siloed or sidelined. To help better explain and address the threat we face policy makers must recognise that the health burdens caused by climate change will undermine our economies, social stability, and global security. 2. Create accountability and transparency by integrating health metrics into climate and green policies. Accountability can be further increased by the US galvanising the public and private sectors into doing the same and incorporating health metrics into their climate programs to ensure accountability. 3. Direct efforts towards adaptation and resilience of health care. By focusing attention, innovation and financing here policy makers can mitigate the harm of existing climate change and strengthen the public health systems for the future. The US, global leaders, policy makers, the health community, scientists, clinicians, and academics all have a role to make this a reality and ensure we move to human-centred climate action. You can read our full comment piece in The Lancet - “Addressing the unmet need: US leadership on climate and health” -https://lnkd.in/eVipWDtd. It was a pleasure to write it with Andrea Baccarelli, Dean of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Megan Ranney, Dean of Yale School of Public Health for The Lancet special issue.
